While I was visiting my mom a couple of weeks ago, we were flapping our mouths about all sorts of things.... family gossip, tv shows, movies, etc., just like normal and eventually the talk turned to food.
Also, just like normal.
It turns out that she had just bought another Panini maker, because she thought the other one she had was too small. So, she offered me her old one and not being one to turn down free gifts from mom, I took it home.
She also gave me this book:
When I got home, I started looking through it, while I was watching some random movie and eventually I wasn't even paying attention to it.
I started marking page after page after page, until the book looked like this:
After much drooling, I decided to have Panini week.
Yes, folks.... an entire week of Paninis.
And here's the list:
Well, except that last one.
I had way too many people over one night and there's no way I'm making 10 Paninis in a row.
I don't care how much they beg.
Here's the Cuisinart Panini maker in all it's glory:
Just waiting for me to make all those lovely dinners.
The next day I rushed to the store and bought all the ingredients.
Two-Cheese Tomato Panini was first on the list.
That night I went to work shredding cheese...
and getting all the rest of the ingredients together.
Bubba was enthralled.
Hi Bubba.
"Oh, hi mom."
And finally the first Panini was in and squished.
I made two and just stuck one in the oven at 200 while the other one was cooking.
Sadly, they were eaten before I remembered to take a picture of one.
Yes, every night.
Trust me, you won't care about pictures either after you smell them cooking.
But now, to tell you the truth, even though every single one of them were great, I'm done with it for awhile.
Yes, I had a Panini overdose.
My mom warned me, but did I listen?
No.
So, my lovely machine will go into the pantry until sometime around Spring.
It was a lovely week, but right now I'm fantasizing about normal dinners.
You know, that aren't sandwiched between bread ;)

P.S.
Please join me over at Rattlebridge Farm for Foodie Friday.
I just had a panini for lunch out on Wednesday, and after reading this post, want to be on the look out for a machine. :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend ~ FlowerLady
You have great week too :)
DeleteCould you get it back out? I was thinking of coming over and you could make me one for breakfast? :)
ReplyDeleteHA! I suppose I could ;)
DeleteOh my stars, did they look tasty! There is a grocers down the street from me that makes the best panini! I love them and should probably buy my own maker. It would be more cost-effective and I could make them in my pj's :) Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deb
They're really easy to make and definitely cheaper :)
DeleteMmmmmm.... my mouth is watering.
ReplyDeleteLOL mine was too!
DeleteI would love a panini, but had to give up gluten.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could have one with gluten free bread like sourdough?
DeleteI like Panni's but not every night. I don't have a panni maker but if I see one at a thrift shop for a good price I might buy it!
ReplyDeleteYeah.... every night was a bit much :)
DeleteLOL! A week of Pannis would be heaven!
ReplyDeleteYou would think... lol
DeleteRue, darling what a great pleasure it is to find you, I'm on the phone with Gloria and she let me know you were blogging again, YAH!!!!!! Not sure if you remember me from the RMS days, I've happily had you to my blog contacts, looking forward to your next post. fondly ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteLynne!! So good to hear from you! Of course I remember :)

Rue, I am thrilled that you linked up to Foodie Friday (your kitchen and guest room tours are also welcome, as the party has expanded to include "everything else," so just any post you want to add, ever, will be very welcome. Your Panini looks so enticing--you have inspired me to go looking for my machine. Give Bubba a hug.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to feature this post at next week's party.
I'll remember that next time :) I'll definitely give Bubba a hug from you.
DeleteThank you for the feature!
xoxo
You have got me licking my lip over here. We love grilled sandwiches. I don't make a panini machine, but I do mine on my old trusty George Foreman.
ReplyDeleteI had a George Forman and it would have done the same job, but unfortunately it died lol
DeleteWOW you have me so hungry over here now. Looks like a delicious week at your house. Bubba thinks so too. What a little sweetie. So nice of your mom to gift you the Panini maker and book. Moms are just sweet that way aren't they??
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Hugs
Yes, my mom is a giver :)

I'm sitting here in awe of your photography skills. Every one is perfect. Glad you enjoyed your paninis. I see Bubba has washed up and is sitting patiently at his place, ready to eat. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are too kind! Thank you :)
DeleteBubba thinks he'll get some of every dinner, but in reality he gets organic doggy treats. Don't tell him ;)
ummm...I love 'em, too.
ReplyDeleteMy waffle maker also has a grill and I make my paninis using it...works like a dream...We are trying to cut down on bread, tho, so .....no paninis in sight for us.
We're taking a break from bread too. I suspect it's where the extra 5 pounds on my body came from lol
DeleteYummy, your panini looks wonderful. I just found your blog and had a great time reading through your post. Your home is so lovely, and I love your style. I'm following you now so I'll be back ;) Blessings
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Shelley!
DeleteI love panini! I make them for the hubby and myself about once every week or two. Our favorite is ciabatta bread with turkey breast lunch meat, muenster cheese, roasted red pepper and pesto mayo. It is delicious! We always eat ours with kettle cooked chips. I just use a frying pan with my cast iron press to make mine. I noticed in one of your pix that we have the same cookie jar...the jadeite green one from World Market. I love mine! Have a blessed weekend....Vicky
ReplyDeleteThat sounds really good!
DeleteMy daughter gave me that jar for my birthday last year. I had no idea where she had gotten it, but I love it :)
Every one of those sandwiches sounds delicious! Your little Bubba is a heart stealer...
ReplyDeleteThey really were!
DeleteBubba definitely has my heart ;)
Those paninis sounded and looked really good!
ReplyDeleteThey were! :)
DeleteI have a Panni maker but burnt out to after only one day. I do not usually eat bread so I knew it was a disaster for me to get used to two pieces of bread.
ReplyDeleteI understand we can grill veggies on them and will give that a try as I eat low carbs only My Panni maker is now in storage to , I think we are all better off just ordering them out once in a while and not storing the darn things.
I think it's a great thing to have for the summer once in awhile, instead of using the hot oven, but I know what you mean about storing yet another cooking tool.
DeleteThey look delicious, and your little dog looks so cute waiting.
ReplyDeleteI really think he thought he was going to get his own, but no such luck lol
DeleteYour pup is adorable, I just love him! Oh, and I too love panini's :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think your babies are awfully cute too :)
DeleteRue!!!! You sweet little Toot! I have a Cuisinart panini maker. My go-to sandwich is turkey and cheese with avocado.

ReplyDeleteLOL Gloria! It was almost too much bread for me too.
DeleteI was just thinking that today.... it really does feel like the whole gang is here, especially now that Picket came by :)
Love you!
Rue, your Panini's look scrumptious. I smiled when I saw Bubba because that is what my husband calls my son sometimes. You're so lucky to have your mom to talk to about all sorts of things. I miss my mom so much at times. How nice of her to give you her Panini maker. Oh Rue, we would love it if would follow us on our side bar. I'm so glad I met you here in blog land.
ReplyDeleteHave a peaceful weekend.
~Sheri
Hi Sheri :)
DeleteBubba's actual name is Bear, but his nickname stuck. It gets confusing though, because my nephew's nickname is Bubba too lol
I'm sorry about your mom passing. I can't imagine how tough that is.
I can follow you on you, but I just add people to my sidebar and that's how I keep up. You're on there ;)
I'm glad to have met you too!
Have a great weekend as well.
xo
Too funny! I saw a blurb on Hip2Save that Macy's had Bella Panini makers on clearance, regular $59.99 - on sale $19.99! Then there was a $10 rebate! I ordered on line, ran to my nearest Macy's and picked it up and my total cost will be $11.45. I always wanted a panini maker, but really could not justify the cost. We are so excited. Our weather forecast is 12 inches of snow and we are ready to fire it up!
ReplyDeleteI understand not justifying the cost, which is why I was so happy when my mom just gave it to me lol That was a great deal on yours! I hope you enjoy it :)
DeleteI wish we had snow coming, but it's just been rain lately.
Have a great night!
A great gift from your Mom that has had some very tasty results11 xx
ReplyDeleteThey really were tasty! :)
DeleteLooks delcious! I bought a panini maker a few months ago and have yet to use it. Maybe I will haul it out and make sandwiches to go with the homemade soup I have planned for tonight.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed it :)
