My dear, beautiful friend, Kim once said "The one place in the whole wide world that you should not have to follow silly unimportant rules is in your own home."
And she's right, whether it's inside or out.
So, I listened to her (which I always try to anyway) and painted my side porches the way I wanted to.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love it :)
This is what I've been doing for the past few days while the weather has been gorgeous here and why I haven't been visiting all of you as much, until today....
Notice anything different?
Here's the before:
And again the after:
Yep, I finally painted the two backdoors and railing. The trim and windows are next, but I need a bigger ladder.
Here's the side door before:
During:
Somebody was wondering what I was doing...
And after:
From far away:
Before:
After:
The other side door:
And as you can see, I have a lot more to do, but it's getting there :)
Eventually, at some point, I'll paint the house the original color, which is a sort of beigey (yes it's a word!) yellow and I think it'll all come together.
But I'm loving it now :)
Off to make more visits....
xo,
rue

I love it Rue..You are giving me the courage to grab the paint brush! And yes, always listen to Kim.
ReplyDeleteI like it, and I think it will go well with the beigey yellow. I never tire of green.
ReplyDeleteOH I love this change...the porch details stand out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I think that's just what your porches needed. Now they are visible and inviting.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know I love it because of all the COLOR!
ReplyDeleteI love it Rue! You can never go wrong with green.
ReplyDeleteGirlfriend that looks amazing!! Never be afraid of bold vibrant COLOR! it adds so much personality. I absolutely love it and hope you do too!!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteOh! just read the previous post..........what a sweet soul Mini has! I can tell by looking at her. Those are sweet natured eyes and nature. Great companions they are for each other! So cute up in the chair together.
ReplyDeleteI love the new look. You did a great job!

Loving the green and red!
ReplyDeleteI do like that -- especially the red door! Could you tell what it was originally? (Obviously the railings were not original) --
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I think the green trim makes all the difference. We are waiting for our weather to warm up (it's been so cold here again!) so we can paint our front porch and door.
ReplyDeleteI love it, very european/italian.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect pop of color! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove it.
ReplyDeleteAnd if we can't do things our way, at home, where can we?
that's why I don't even like to answer questions, by bloggers, on "which will I choose?" 'Cause I think our home, should be totally ours. :-)
Rue, the green is gorgeous and I think it looks great!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda

I love your cottage home and the new colors are wonderful. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, MUCH better! Your extra touches have made a 100% improvement on the character of your house! Good show!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it! That green reminds me of the greens used during the 1930s, not the kitchen green that was used then on the handles of so many implements, which I love too, but one used on trim outside and inside too. It's kind of the green I see on houses in the NC mountains. And the red door! Our house is white clapboard with green shutters and a red front door and I call it my Handsel and Gretel house. It all needs repainting but when we do it will be the same. My green does not have the depth and warmth of yours though. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteRue thank you for giving me that nice mention on your blog......that was so sweet of you!
ReplyDeleteThat pop of color is very nice! Your home is cute as can be!
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! I am so in love with your roof as well - so fairytale!! You did a great job and couldn't have picked a better color. Thanks for sharing - love the pics. Enjoy your day, friend!

Hi Rue, I have been crazy busy too and have been under the radar. Bill and I are helping with a church project for a huge bazaar in a few weeks. Still busy but I need to visit my friends. Thank you for your sweet comment and wishes for our anniversary.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your new paint project. Your beautiful home stands out so much more. I love green and it all looks wonderful. You have been busy with this big job. Happy painting.

I love it Rue, looks beautiful! Have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw the color and was instantly happy. Well done! I can "see" it with the beigey yellow.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with you and your friend Kim. And I LOVE your red doors and green railing. It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThis color is very different, Ru........and I think that's why I like it! It's a color that just makes you happy. :~)

Good advice from a good friend.
ReplyDeleteThe shade of green had just the right amount of depth and clarity to really pop against your house color. What a difference a few quarts of paint can make.
The new color makes your house just pop! Love the red door, I've often thought of painting our front door red...but then hubs looks at me with that look, are you really serious? I need to work on him a bit more! It will look good with the beigey yellow.
ReplyDeleteI really like what you did with the new paint! Green is always a great idea. The red door is a great idea! I need to get the mister to repaint our door, it's really not a good color.
ReplyDeleteI love that green. It gives your home a pop of color but still looks like it "belongs" know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteI really like it!! :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!!! YOU ARE THE HOUSE WHISPERER my beautiful Rue! Yes! You just keep listening to YOU and following your heart and please keep sharing with lucky us as you continue to make your darling home you. I am sitting here trying to catch up before I get interrupted and I love all that you have been doing!! (Except getting hurt! I am so sorry!!) I am just over the moon so very happy for my beautiful friend that you are playing and creating and yes - not worrying about anyone else's decorating rules. I love you very much and thank you for all! (((((hugs))))
ReplyDeleteLove,
Kim
