With everyone decorating for the Autumn season, I was inspired and thought it would be fun to grab my box of Halloween decor out of the storage shed to see what I had.
Sadly, after opening the box with anticipation, I found only one thing that didn't have a Halloween look to it.
One.
And here it is kids...
A ceramic pumpkin.
Yeah, I know.
It was then that I realized that I've never been much of a Fall decorator lol
Anyway, I went to the grocery thinking that they'd have some real pumpkins and/or maybe some mums to throw around the house.
They didn't.
Sigh.
Oh well...
that sad little ceramic pumpkin will have to wait for some friends to join him, when the stores catch up around here.
I know quite a few of you are on some Fall tours.
(You can see why I'm not :p)
So where did you find your real pumpkins?
Is anyone else having trouble finding them?
xo,
rue
PS
Guess what I'm painting right now.
I'll give you a hint...
My dining room is a mess!
;)
I'm not really into decorating for a season, unless it's Christmas. But I must admit I like seeing the fall decorations on some blogs. So maybe, just maybe, I'll give it a go after all!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Rue. Love your little ceramic Fall pumpkin. Oh, I love to decorate for Fall. Around here, the shops start putting Fall things out at the end of July. I thought about decorating this weekend, we'll see. It sounds like you have a stash of Halloween stuff. I look forward to seeing it all. As far as the pumpkins, I usually just buy them at the store.
ReplyDeleteHave a pleasant weekend. : )
~Sheri
I have a pumpkin very similar to yours. I've only seen the small ones in our stores so far.
ReplyDeleteI have a few Fall ceramic pumpkins but i' not quiet ready for all the Fall just yet.
ReplyDeleteI went to hobby lobby yesterday to get some faux leaves to decorate a grapevine wreath I have. I looked for a cooking pumpkin yesterday in the grocery store because I wanted to try a pumpkins soup recipe and there were none out yet. I will start fall decorating usually when fall actually arrives on the calendar.
ReplyDeleteI have a fun wooden pumpkin made from a stump. I haven't even looked in the stores yet and won't put any pumpkins out until October. I'm heading to the nursery today for plants in yellows and oranges. That will be my ode to fall.
ReplyDeleteHi Rue! I don't have much to decorate with for Fall either. In fact, I don't even remember what I have because I don't decorate for Fall until after summer is technically over! I know, I'm a die hard summer time fan. I'll be getting that box out from the basement in ooooh, about three more weeks! My hubby buys the mums and we sometimes get our pumpkins from his parent's farm, even though it is 3 hours away. Have a great weekend, Rue!
ReplyDeleteI have fall in one room right now, in anticipation of a tour. Other than than, it's still summer here! I have that same ceramic pumpkin...it was a thrift store find last year and I love it! Can't wait to see your painting project....
ReplyDeleteI found my first real pumpkin at the grocery store yesterday but it's a tiny one. It's too hot here to have pumpkins yet. :)
ReplyDeleteI use a mix of faux and real fall decor...but most of my look just comes from a change of color. Your mantel is perfect with the old book and the little pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! I live where it is truly Fall weather, with leaves falling and the whole bit, but I haven't seen any real pumpkins for sale here yet, Rue.
ReplyDeleteI was rinsing off my deck when lo and behold - in the corner was a pumpkin decoration that I had put in the corner last fall when the first snow fell and winter was on its' way. I've seen it here and there but today it was just waiting for me to pull it out. But i'll wait a bit because we are still having warm weather. Even though i don't decorate much i do have a few small things from the dollar store for fall and halloween that I'll eventually put out. So.....u are painting your dining room - can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteRue it sounds like you are apologizing..DON'T! I love all the real fresh pumpkins and where I live [south Alabama] we are already seeing them in the WM and other similar venues- I love the fact that I can stretch their "life" by even painting them gold or silver or white later on but there's no way this old lady is going to haul in the stalks of corn, bales of hay etc this early...it's possible to locate the REAL FALL SUPPLIES but it often gets to be not so DOABLE to get rid of them later on..I honestly luv, luv, luv my [bargain] little or large ceramic pumpkins...sooooooooooo easy and uncomplicated. Rather tasteful too if I do say so...relax, ya'll it's okay...do your own thing.
ReplyDeleteOh ho ho.. that is too funny that around where you are there isn't much fall items in stores.... I live in SW GA and fall and CHRISTMAS, yes I said Christmas, has been at Hobby Lobby since BEFORE the 4th of July. I kid you not. I went in prior to the 4th to find some patriotic things hopefully marked down, the week before the 4th, and they were putting up all the Christmas aisles and the autumn/halloween was out on a couple of aisles. A few weeks ago, almost ALL the halloween was gone, some fall out, some turkey stuff, but mostly Christmas. Dollar Tree had their pumpkins out after the 4th of July and I went in yesterday hoping their little ceramic pumpkins (including a white one which I wanted and didn't get last month) were there. And they were all sold out. Walmart was selling fresh pumpkins Saturday 9/5/15. Sort of hard to think autumn when it is 90+ degrees and humid. Ah well. I like to do 'autumn/harvest' (mostly pumpkins) in September with fall like flowers/leaves/sunflowers and after Oct 1st I like to put out my halloween items. On Nov 1st those get put up and out come the turkeys! I just can't decorate for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteGADawn57
I don't decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving either. I just don't have the time and I'm not ready yet, so I get it ;)

The pumpkins are just starting to show up in the stores here, but it is still terribly early and real pumpkins do tend to rot. :)

Hi Rue,
ReplyDeleteGood luck with painting the dining room. I am still in summer mode here too. I only decorate for fall a little bit but we are still in summer here with my flowers etc. So no fall decor just yet. Have fun with painting.
Kris
I haven't put my fall stuff out yet. I don't have a lot either. 😕 tried to post a picture of the one little corner I've done but I'm having issues with my computer today. 😒😒
ReplyDeleteI do not decorate for seasons, only Christmas, so the one pumpkin is fine with me! More than I do!
ReplyDeleteI don't really decorate for fall. I put away my seashells, and put out my one glass pumpkin...and call it done! After Oct. 1... I will put our acorns and pinecones...but that's about it. I love looking at all the fall tours...but that is entirely too much bother for me. Real pumpkins are not here in Wisconsin yet...at least not in my neck of the woods! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love looking at the tours too and they're inspiring, but as much as I love the season, I'm not really one to go all out unless I'm having some sort of party, which I'm not ;)

Awwwwww...come to New England, we'll fix you up nice and purdy :).
ReplyDeleteThe pumpkins are out in full force all over the place!
That's funny, I pulled a ceramic pumpkin out of my little laundry/storage shed, and it is in my kitchen's screened porch, which is the main entry into my little cottage. That's the extent of my fall decorating. Basically the only holiday I decorate for is Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHappy Autumn to you dearest Rue ~ FlowerLady
No fall decos here, either...too hot...and, like you, I don't decorate all that much with fall things. I don't decorate much for Halloween, either...but love Christmas fun.
ReplyDeleteJust starting to see pumpkins on the roadside stands and I had my first apple of the season....an early Mac. I live in apple country so when they are out everywhere, Fall is officially here. I don't start decorating for Fall till early October. I have a few of those ceramic pumpkins too!
ReplyDeleteI think your pumpkin is adorable!! Hobby Lobby has had their pumpkins (fake) out since July. Real pumpkins are in Walmart but I haven't seen them anywhere else yet! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteHi Rue, I know I bought oops paint yesterday, had to! So cheap at True Value. But today it is 103 degrees! Fall decorating???? NO NOT YET! lol BUT I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO ready for cooler weather!!!!!!! hugs Kat
ReplyDeleteCute pumpkin...it is still a little early for pumpkins at the grocery, but not for mums. I bought some really pretty rust colored ones...I took a chance when I bought them, one was barely beginning to open and the other wasn't...I was so happy to see they are both the same color!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there are pumpkins out, but there are some of the stores that have Halloween candy and decor, no costumes yet. I'm just glad none of the stores here have put out Christmas decor!
ReplyDeleteI used to decorate for Halloween when my kids got a kick out of it, then I switched to fall decorating. I have too much and I've given a lot away.
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin is darling. My grocery store has had mums for awhile and today I saw pumpkins and all sorts of mini's and gourds. I can wait a little longer, I like my stuff to last until Thanksgiving. :)
Jane x
No real ones here yet, just ceramic.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen real pumpkins here yet. It has been so warm, and they do rot!! I have purchased a few mums. I figure I could get them before they are all picked over, and the stores around here just get one shipment in....so if you don't buy them now, it isn't like more will be coming later. Keeping them in some mostly shady spots in the yard for now, and watering them. I do love to decorate for Fall..... and the bins are coming upstairs tomorrow!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWe finally have pumpkins in the store, so I bought a few, but I didn't go overboard just in case ;)
DeleteI hope your mums last! And have fun decorating :)
xo
Actually, Fall is the only time of year, other than Christmas, where I do more than hang clean and starched curtains! Spring curtains, Summer curtains, Fall curtains and of course the thicker, draft dodging, Winter curtains. Fall is when I could definitely get carried away!
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace.
you could have just photographed it from seven different angles, that seems to be big in the blogging world...lol I don't even have one pumpkin yet, not even a fake one
ReplyDeleteHA!!! You are one funny lady, Wendy :)

I love Fall, my favorite season. Walmart has pumkins, but to early, like a few commented. The only thing new I would like to buy and with a coupon, a small white velvet pumpkin. I have ceramic, cloth, Terra cotta and wooden pumkins and gourds. Your pumpkin is cute, Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteI thought about buying a velvet pumpkin, but bought a sweater one instead from a friend. Trend starter right here! LOL Just kidding ;)

Love the pumpkin! Every time I go to the grocery store lately, I'm so tempted to get mums! I just may break down and buy some :) Have a great weekend Rue! :)
ReplyDeleteI planted pumpkins in the alley during the spring to keep the weeds down. I am now reaping quite the bumper crop a month before I want them! Oh well, I have to keep picking them before the Pumpkin Smashers get them. My friends and neighbors are a bit surprised that I am pawning pumpkins off on them this early. ("But it's only September...") If you lived closer, you'd be on my pumpkin list, Rue. :-)
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I need to venture up to the attic and see what I can find. I am hosting a shower next weekend, so I am just focused on getting through that at this point!
ReplyDeleteYour ceramic pumpkin can join my miniature velvet pumpkin sitting on a stack of books. That's all I've done for fall decorating, too ~ and only because I just found this velvet pumpkin at TJ Maxx the other day. I haven't even begun to dig out my fall decorating stuff. Too busy with other stuff. We had contractors here yesterday putting hardwood floors in the bedroom, so everything in our bedroom needed to be stuffed into other rooms. We're just now putting everything back together. Hmm, I'm guessing you're either painting your living room or the dining room itself!
ReplyDeleteI actually think your fabulous worn books and clocks speak to fall quite loudly...my kind of fall decorating!!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Rue, I love it. The simple beauty of a pumpkin....who needs more?
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
Barb
I really like your mantel and those vintage books are incrediable just the addition of your sweet ceramic Pumpkin speaks Autumn to me. Have fun painting your dining room, I'm looking forward to seeing your new color. I seem to have an addiction to velvet pumpkins with real stems. Many I made, the others I purchased on etsy over the years. Still haven't purchased Fall Mums and Pumpkins to decorated outside because it's just still so hot in Phillly.
ReplyDeleteI only 'decorate' Easter and Christmas.
ReplyDeleteA good friend loves 'Halloween' and her house does look amazing ... we all have to do what is right for us, how we feel.
Anyway, I like your pumpkin!
All the best Jan
Hi Rue, I do have lots of Fall decorations and Halloween too but I still haven't started doing anything yet. Your lone pumpkin is very nice. Go with it. Smile!
ReplyDeleteFall is in all the stores here in the mountains. Fresh pumpkins have not shown up yet. The mums are in but not blooming much. I once bought some mums that were not in bloom and they never did come out enough. So I'm waiting.
Have a wonderful week.
Love,Jeanne
I don't decorate this early...the pumpkins aren't around yet, if you buy mums too early they are done for before fall hits, and the leaves are not really turning yet. I do have quite a bit of fall decorations and I think that's why I hold off...if I did it early I'd be so tired of them by Thanksgiving !!!

ReplyDeleteWell, living in SoCal, we don't get a true Fall. But it is my favorite season and I love the colors, so I mostly use faux flowers and leaves to put little touches here and there. I love baskets of pinecones with little bits of color added. Even if it's not Fall outside, I can pretend INside my house. I sometimes use real pumpkins and gourds, but later on.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your dining room painting...can't wait to see. LuAnn
With California... I think it has to do with what kind of trees you have in your yard, but as far as weather... you're right. No Fall to speak of that I remember.
DeleteThank you, LuAnn :)
xo
I love Fall and we don't have real pumpkins here either!
ReplyDeleteYour cute pumpkin has found the perfect place to hang out for the next few months... right by those cool vintage leather bound books! We have pumpkins and mums out already, but I'm always afraid of buying the early ones, the pumpkins have a tendency to rot and the mums are a bugger to keep watered in these temps. I did try a few, but will be adding more later! :) Can't wait to see what you are painting! ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteGreen and yellow are the best combination in the world!!! I gotta say, I love the built-in bookshelves around the door. I've had an idea for built-in's in our den, it just hasn't come to fruition yet. Someday. I love the paint colors, and update. Looks great! Can't wait to see the dining room! Have a great week Rue! :)
ReplyDeleteNo pumpkins in Texas grocery stores, either. It's very odd. I'm liking your ceramic pumpkin; I have quite a few ceramic pumpkins/gourds from Hobby Lobby, Michael's and my local dollar store. I don't do major autumn décor, meaning nothing crafty, no hay bales, or bright leaves. I change mantel and other décor to warmer colors, softer textures, heavier fabrics and spicier candle fragrances. There are some obvious fall things, but nothing like a Pinterest page of Fall Decorating. My approach is just a cozying up of the house.
ReplyDeleteNo hay bales?! The horror!! ;)
DeleteI really like your idea of Autumn decorating actually and you inspired me to get some Candles :)
xo
I swear I'm going to decorate a bit for Fall here this week. We had a "not as hot" front come thru and it was inspiring! Love the ceramic pumpkin - I'm always drwn to pumpkins and pinecones. They are such beautiful and simple shapes of nature.
ReplyDeleteI saw pumpkins in Costco last week! I wait and go to a pumpkin patch with my grandkids---overpriced and oddly shaped pumpkins, but they have fun picking them out ;)
