The yellow dining room

Last time I showed you the living room and promised to show you my newly painted dining room in a day or two, but I was distracted by a few things.

One of which I'll share at the end of this post ;)

So here it is...

I chose the next color up from the living room color, which is a little lighter. It's called Behr's Whisper Yellow, which I also used in my bedroom.

Here are the three rooms together now that they've all been painted in different shades of yellow...

Looking into the office...

Looking into the kitchen...

Just like I did in the living room, I used Behr's Sagey for inside the cabinets.

I think it all flows pretty nicely and it's much more cheerful in the house now :)

So what have I been up to, since I last posted?

Well, quite a few things, but the most important was my daughter, Annie's birthday.

She wanted something simple this year so there was just three of us... Annie, her friend Nikki and me. For dinner we had, at her request, filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes and steamed artichokes with marbled brownies for dessert.

The flowers were one of my gifts to her.

My baby is now 20 years old.

Amazing how time flies.

PS

I promise I'll get to your questions on my last couple of posts, answer your emails, and visit you soon.

It's just been a whirlwind of activity around here, with going out of town, birthdays and cleaning and this is the first time I've been able to sit down long enough to post.

Oh and snow... but I'll share that soon ;)

Same here with being busy--lots of grandkid sports and school happenings, and my husband and I have been getting our yards ready for winter. It has not snowed as yet--very late for that, so I'm sure we'll be grtting walloped soon--lol!

  11. Everything came out beautifully! Happy birthday to your daughter...it's bittersweet when they leave the teen years and hit that big milestone. :)

I could not help noticing your spoon collection. Were they something you inherited or have you collected them over the years? I ask because I also have a spoon collection that was started by my great grandmother when she was a young girl. Some have engraved dates back to the late 1800's on them. I have added to the collection over the years and now have 3 filled spoon racks and another one that I need to find a place to hang so I can fill it up too. :)

  27. Hi Rue
It seems like forever since I checked in. This year has flown by!! Still settling in. The truth, at 72, I move a tad slower. I also sort of compromised my immune system over the course of this big life changing downsize.:-) Yikes!
Your dining room color is wonderful and perfect for the era of your home!

  30. Yellow is such a happy color! Even on a dark and cloudy day it looks nice. I also have yellow in my house and have not tired of it at all. It needs to be re-done next year, but honestly I think I'm going yellow again. Anyway, you chose some nice ones. Do you ever get taken by the name of the paint? I do and my husband thinks this is hilarious...and yes it has gotten me in trouble in the past LOL
Happy Birthday to Annie! Her birthday meal sounds delicious.

  31. Rue, Indeed, you have mastered the art of "flow." I love the way the purple hues of the flowers go so well. Every color goes with yellows. The sunny disposition of your wonderful home is now set and every holiday and, indeed, everyday, will be set against this cheerful background. I noticed that you have the now collectible doorbell chimes. Love those, too.

  32. Love how all your rooms flow so nicely together with the shades of yellow! My house is rather disjointed because I like so many colors! Though really, if I just painted the kitchen a neutral color (right now it's a light, but a little bright - like robin's egg - blue...and I hate it!), my rooms would flow a lot better. But I also want the wainscoting torn down the cabinets redone, new moldings around windows and doorframes - sooo, the paint isn't going to happen until we can afford to have everything done at once. Anyway! Happy birthday to your baby. Her birthday dinner sounds delicious.

  38. Good Evening Rue, Your post was filled with sunny warm colour and then I reached the end of your post and you said the word 'snow'.... oh my word so soon.
Your rooms are lovely. I do love a pale yellow for the home as here in England we have such grey winter days that yellow works so well..... having said that, after many years of yellow, I have changed my colour to a biscuit colour.... I'm not sure how long that will last as I am missing the warm glow of yellow.
Your daughter must think it strange that so many people she does not know, wish her a Happy Birthday, but that is what is so lovely about the blogging community, they are so warm and generous. So I will add my belated birthday wishes.
You have a beautiful home and I love that you have filled it with such interesting things.... something lovely to catch the eye whichever way I turn. I also love flowers in a home and the bouquet you bought your daughter is lovely.
    Best wishes to you.
    Daphne

  43. The shades of yellow are amazing! You have done a LOT of work! Painting is so much work, but wonderful and worth the result once finished! The birthday party sounded very special, and the flower bouquet beautiful - my daughter will be 20 next year - what! Where indeed does the time go. I don't have the answer to that at all! And snow... haha! Yes to that too. lol!

  44. I don't think I've ever appreciated the concept of flow until I've seen your rooms after this paint transformation. In these pictures when I saw the peek into your kitchen, it all makes sense. There's a serenity about all these spaces opening up to each other. Congratulations, Rue, on your choices and your hard work!
