Years ago, my dear friend, Kim gave me this little tiny cup and saucer.
I've treasured it always and every time I look at it, I think of her.
On the saucer is the recipe...
Exactly as it's written, for those that can't see what it says:
Recipe for Friendship
"Take two heaping cups of patience
One heartful of love
Two handsful of generosity
A dash of laughter
One headful of understanding
Sprinkle generously with kindness
Add plenty of faith and mix well.
Spread over a period of a lifetime
And serve everybody you meet."
I take those words to heart.
So, there it sits on a shelf, next to other precious things that I love.....
in a cupboard in my dining room.
When I walked past it again today, not only did I think of her, but all of you as well.
Old friends and new,
Thank you so much for welcoming me back.
From Kim not only being my first commenter and then adding a blogroll and including me in it, to Genevieve writing about me, to Brenda who also wrote about me and my blog, and then to all of you that found me again or found me for the first time...
Thank you!
I'm overwhelmed with the kindness that you've shown me.
When I started this again, I had no idea what to expect and had no idea if I was even going to stick around and if I was, whether or not I'd just be talking to myself.
I guess the answers are, yes I will stick around and thank goodness I'm not just talking to myself.
Although, I tend to do that anyway ;)
I promise I'll visit all of you as soon as I possibly can.
It may take awhile, but I'll get there eventually.
You can count on it.
xoxo

P.S.
I'm working on what is quite possibly the smallest mudroom ever.
Before pictures:
It might take awhile, because it's a heavy traffic area and there's rain on the horizon for the next few days, but as soon as I'm finished, I'll share the after.
There will be a few posts before that happens though, so don't hold your breath.
;)
Well now it is my turn to get teary..... ahhh Rue, I love you so much. Here's to life as we know it; live it; and breathe it. And may our days unfurl with love and hope always. I am so happy you are happy and here.
ReplyDeleteAlways,
Kim
Cheers to that and I love you too <3
Deletexoxo,

Me too, Linda. I had forgotten how much, silly me :)
DeleteKim was one of the first bloggers I started reading. I found her in the book 'Blogging for Bliss'. Unfortunately by the time I found her she had moved on, but I've been known to go back from time to time and marvel at her beautiful photos and lovely home. I'm not surprised you two are friends.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I'd forgotten about that book. I have it around here somewhere, I think.
DeleteYou know she has a new blog, right? I'm sure you do, but just in case..... http://deardaisycottage.typepad.com/imagery_by_kimberly/
Dear Rue, I found your blog yesterday and was blown away that you have A Joyful Cottage on your blog roll. I never think of my little blog as being blogroll worthy; I'm so honored. Thank you. Sincerely. Thank you. I love your blog. I love that you use color in your home. I love your kitchen and think you did an awesome job renovating it. I love your house. I love that relationships are important to you. I didn't know you when you blogged before, but I'm really happy to know you now. I'll be back. Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteOf course your blog is blogroll worthy, Nancy! You're very welcome. I found you while strolling through other blogs and I read it for quite awhile :)
DeleteThank you!

Love that pretty cup and saucer. I look forward to the after photos of the mudroom project! I love a good project. Have a blessed Tuesday. Thanks for visiting my blog. I wanted to let you know you are showing up as a no reply commenter. Don't know if you have had that happen before. You can google how to fix it if you haven't already. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Vicky
Thank you, but I'm not sure how exciting it'll be lol
DeleteI didn't even know there was such a thing as a no reply commenter.... I went and tried to fix it. I hope it worked :)
I love that sweet teacup! I hope you go over to Rose Chintz Cottage and share it for Teatime Tuesday! : - )
ReplyDeleteIt's neat how special people can be.
Now, you said world's smallest mudroom but I *may* just have you beat! I have a pass-thru about maybe 3 or 4 feet wide in front of my washer and dryer from garage to main room in house and it is REALLY TINY, not a mud room at ALL and I absolutely cannot believe they designed a 4 bedroom house like that......you see on the OTHER side of the wall is the master bathroom and it is stupidly large, just kinda like "why oh why is the bathroom this large when there is absolutely no room in the laundry room" kinda dumb huge. And I soak in the tub and freezer because it is so huge. And it is a lot to clean because it is so huge. How a man had to design this haha.
SO, no this isn't complaining, it is making fun of my own missing-in-action mudroom, to encourage YOU to TREASURE yours!
Looking forward to seeing the changes! Good luck. Taking on any changes is usually too messy, difficult, expensive and a big PAIN!! Brave on! : - )
LOL Michele! You do indeed have me beat, but not by much. I think you're the first person that has ever said that they wished their bathroom was smaller, but I agree with you from that description :)
DeleteThank you!
Hi Rue, I came over to your site from Brenda's Cozy Little House after she wrote a wonderful article about you. I had also done away with my blog roll at some point so I am adding it back because I do love seeing who other bloggers are following and have found quite a few I love that way. I've added you to my blog roll and posted about you and Brenda. Look forward to many more great reads.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet that you put back your blogroll and added me. I'm flattered! I'll be over to see you soon :)
DeleteThank you!!
Ahhh Kim...our sweet friend who has a heart of gold...She was one of the first blogs I ever read and then in 2008 I was blessed to meet her and Laura at Lallee's Cottage.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are blogging again and thank you from the bottom of my heart for having my little blog on your blog roll. I am touched...so touched.
Mudrooms are hard to decorate! I love your cozy home and just adore YOU.
xx
She was one of the first blogs I read too. I loved her immediately. I actually found you because of her, all those years ago :)
DeleteIt wouldn't be a beloved blog list without you, my friend :)
I adore you too, Becky <3

ReplyDeleteGlad to see you again and thank you for stopping by and your sweet comment. I added you to my blog roll too and new following as well.
Have fun!

Rue,
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just like Kim to give such a special and treasured gift. You know, she was the one who inspired me and the girls to create a blog of our own. This tea cup and saucer is gorgeous, and how special that you thought about her when you walked passed it today. Oh, and that cupboard in your dining room.....lovely. I am one of the newcomers to your blog, but I just want to tell you that I really love your posts. They are so charming, and make me smile every time I visit. :~)
~Sheri
No, I didn't know that, but it sounds like her :)
DeleteThank you so much!
Love your tea cup. Glad you are writing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gisela :)
