My little dining room

This is the view from my living room into the dining room.

The details of that arch, the built in cubbies and the built in cupboards are a few of the many things that made me fall in love with this house.

I know you've seen bits and pieces of the dining room here and there, but I thought I'd show you the whole room this time.

On the left is the kitchen ...

and on the right is my office and sewing room.

It's not ready for it's debut yet, so we'll visit it another time ;)

If you were a follower of my other blog, you probably remember the antique table, the chairs, and my great grandmother's hutch that were in the last house.

I've debated back and forth about replacing the chairs with smaller ones, but I love them so much I can't seem to do it.

Here's the original chandelier.

At first I didn't know it was, but after some research it turns out it really is 1920s art deco.

I also wasn't sure if I liked it that much, but it's grown on me and I love it now :)

Let's take a peak into the cupboards.

Here's the left one...

and here's the right one....

My collection of family spoons.

Oh and there's Mini, snoozing again ;)

The view into the living room.

We'll take a closer look in there another time.

I took about a billion pictures of it the other day, so it's going to be awhile ;)

My mom gave me that grandfather clock when I bought my first house.

It was broken for years after a move, but my honey had it fixed on my birthday and it works great now.

The little thing hanging in the arch is the doorbell.

Isn't it cute?

It makes the best sound :)

Well.... until the dogs start barking.

These are the flowers I gave my daughter, Annie for Valentine's Day.

She wanted them to go in here, so that everyone could enjoy them.

Pretty sweet kid, huh?

Well, that's it.

The room is kind of little, so it was a pretty short tour, but I hope you enjoyed it :)

  1. Hi Rue! Oh, I love your sweet dining room and do feel at home when I see all of your pretty furniture. I've always had a crush on your great granny's hutch! I just love that piece and your dishes inside too! I'd keep those lovely chairs too. Those are very art deco arches aren't they and I I love how they're mimicked in your little corner builtins! So charming. I love your little chandy too! I've said it before, but I'm so glad you came back to us and your little cottage is charming just like you! :)
    Be a sweetie,

    1. Hi Shelia :)
Yes, the arches match the built-ins and when I show you the living room, you'll notice they match the ceiling in there and the fireplace.

I'm glad to be back too and thank you, my friend :)

  3. Rue, you home is beautiful, so many beautiful conversation pieces. I love the small white hutches, my neighbor had them and I miss seeing them. The chandelier is a great deco piece. I love my treasures also - I am debating whether it is time to clear some of my items.

If you love something, either give it to someone that will cherish it or keep it. That's my advice :)

  4. The room is not little - it is cozy! And the open doorway to the living room makes it feel so much bigger. I love your chairs. No one wants a smaller chair LOL. The built ins pull my heart strings too. This house deserved you to find it and appreciate it! Adorable!

    1. You're right about the chairs, Miss Merry. The problem is that it's hard for men to walk through that room, because it's succ a small space, but I'll probably keep them :)

      Thank you!

I love the details in your house...that archway and built-ins are amazing. That's just one thing I love about older homes - oh, and the crown moulding, too. And that 1920's art deco chandelier? 15. PS - my grandparent's house had the same door chimes, though theirs had 3 of the chimes. It was in a recessed nook in their hallway. Of course, me and my sister were constantly ringing the doorbell or playing with the chimes. Drove my grandma crazy! ;-)

  19. Seeing pictures of your home reinforces the truth that a home reflects its owner. If I saw random pics of homes, including your's, and was asked to pick which was yours, I do believe I'd get it right. It's nostalgic, interesting and uncluttered. Like you!

  20. Rue,
This is a true joy for me to meet you. I began my journey of getting to know a bit about you through other posts and the quotes on your side bar. "All the details of every day life..." sigh-isn't this exactly what the journey is all about and when I see your home, it is a reflection of details and your own beautiful journey. Your home is totally beautiful, but also extremely charming, welcoming, loved, cherished and refined.
I will back for more lovely visits!

  27. I've never seen an arch with that detail, like stair steps but there's probably a correct term for it. You are so fortunate to have found a house with so many original features full of character and quaintness. And that dining room chandelier, I would definitely keep it--and you mustn't replace your grandmother's chairs! I'm so glad you showed closeups of the built-in corner cupboards. All of the objects seem as if destined for this one particular house.

The views from one room to another are so pretty!

    1. I have no idea what that term would be, Dewena. I've never been one for technical terms and call most things... "thingy" ;)

      Hi Dewena :)

Those aren't my grandmother's chairs, just the hutch is. In fact, those chairs are only about 12 or 13 years old, but they fit into my style really well. The problem is, it's hard to squeeze by them in that room, but I'll probably keep them or give them to my daughter when she moves out.

After realizing that the chandelier was original, I'd never get rid of it ;)

It really does seem that I was meant to be the caretaker of this house. I love it so much.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)
