This is the view from my living room into the dining room.
The details of that arch, the built in cubbies and the built in cupboards are a few of the many things that made me fall in love with this house.
I know you've seen bits and pieces of the dining room here and there, but I thought I'd show you the whole room this time.
On the left is the kitchen ...
and on the right is my office and sewing room.
It's not ready for it's debut yet, so we'll visit it another time ;)
If you were a follower of my other blog, you probably remember the antique table, the chairs, and my great grandmother's hutch that were in the last house.
I've debated back and forth about replacing the chairs with smaller ones, but I love them so much I can't seem to do it.
Here's the original chandelier.
At first I didn't know it was, but after some research it turns out it really is 1920s art deco.
I also wasn't sure if I liked it that much, but it's grown on me and I love it now :)
Let's take a peak into the cupboards.
Here's the left one...
and here's the right one....
My collection of family spoons.
Oh and there's Mini, snoozing again ;)
The view into the living room.
We'll take a closer look in there another time.
I took about a billion pictures of it the other day, so it's going to be awhile ;)
My mom gave me that grandfather clock when I bought my first house.
It was broken for years after a move, but my honey had it fixed on my birthday and it works great now.
The little thing hanging in the arch is the doorbell.
Isn't it cute?
It makes the best sound :)
Well.... until the dogs start barking.
These are the flowers I gave my daughter, Annie for Valentine's Day.
She wanted them to go in here, so that everyone could enjoy them.
Pretty sweet kid, huh?
Well, that's it.
The room is kind of little, so it was a pretty short tour, but I hope you enjoyed it :)

rue
Hi Rue! Oh, I love your sweet dining room and do feel at home when I see all of your pretty furniture. I've always had a crush on your great granny's hutch! I just love that piece and your dishes inside too! I'd keep those lovely chairs too. Those are very art deco arches aren't they and I I love how they're mimicked in your little corner builtins! So charming. I love your little chandy too! I've said it before, but I'm so glad you came back to us and your little cottage is charming just like you! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi Shelia :)
DeleteYes, the arches match the built-ins and when I show you the living room, you'll notice they match the ceiling in there and the fireplace.
I'm glad to be back too and thank you, my friend :)
xo
Your home is so sweet and so beautiful!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your cow painting over the hutch!
Thanks for sharing, Rue. Your home is filled with love and sweet treasures.
xx
Thank you, Becky!
DeleteCan you believe my mom didn't want that cow picture? I love it :)
xo
Rue, you home is beautiful, so many beautiful conversation pieces. I love the small white hutches, my neighbor had them and I miss seeing them. The chandelier is a great deco piece. I love my treasures also - I am debating whether it is time to clear some of my items.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gisela :)
DeleteIf you love something, either give it to someone that will cherish it or keep it. That's my advice :)
The room is not little - it is cozy! And the open doorway to the living room makes it feel so much bigger. I love your chairs. No one wants a smaller chair LOL. The built ins pull my heart strings too. This house deserved you to find it and appreciate it! Adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the chairs, Miss Merry. The problem is that it's hard for men to walk through that room, because it's succ a small space, but I'll probably keep them :)
DeleteThank you!
Beautiful, Rue. Hurry up and post those living pictures!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on it! lol

Well, you had me at the arch - what wonderful detail! And, the details on the built in cupboard are wonderful too. I love your dining room table.
ReplyDeleteMake it a great day!
Thank you, Carol :)
DeleteOH my your home is lovely, Rue! The view from room to room is so inviting. Your great-grandmother's hutch is a true treasure and all of your furniture is really lovely. The way you have brought it all together is really quite wonderful...I love it all!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda :)
DeleteI love your DR Rue! Very cozy with such beautiful treasures. That hutch is calling my name....I wouldn't change those chairs - they look super comfortable and I love the detail on them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your beautiful cottage. I'm so enjoying my visits with you again.
Jeannette
The chairs are definitely comfortable :)
DeleteThank you, Jeannette!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Lottie :)
DeleteI certainly did enjoy this little tour! I went through the photos twice because I wanted to capture every little detail. I love the details in your house...that archway and built-ins are amazing. That's just one thing I love about older homes - oh, and the crown moulding, too. And that 1920's art deco chandelier? To-die for!
ReplyDeleteI feel lucky to live here, Melanie. Thank you! :)
DeletePS - my grandparent's house had the same door chimes, though theirs had 3 of the chimes. It was in a recessed nook in their hallway. Of course, me and my sister were constantly ringing the doorbell or playing with the chimes. Drove my grandma crazy! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! :)
DeleteYour home is lovely Rue! Love the detailing on your chairs, and your pretty treasures tucked in their place in the built ins! Simply beautiful! Thank you for sharing your home with us! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christine :)
DeleteYou have a lovely home Rue! Very welcoming. The detail on those chairs is wonderful...I wouldn't want to change them either. Thanks for the tour...your home has such great architecture! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome and thank you, Donnamae :)
DeleteLove, Love, Love It.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara :)
DeleteYour home just exudes charm! I love all the vintage pieces you own. They are all so gorgeous! I would not be able to part with those chairs either...they are stunning! I look forward to the office/sewing room tour too. Have a lovely evening!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vicky and you're welcome! I hope to get that room done soon ;)
DeleteSeeing pictures of your home reinforces the truth that a home reflects its owner. If I saw random pics of homes, including your's, and was asked to pick which was yours, I do believe I'd get it right. It's nostalgic, interesting and uncluttered. Like you!
ReplyDeleteAwww..... thank you, Doreen! I'm not so sure about that uncluttered part though ;)
DeleteRue,
ReplyDeleteThis is a true joy for me to meet you. I began my journey of getting to know a bit about you through other posts and the quotes on your side bar. "All the details of every day life..." sigh-isn't this exactly what the journey is all about and when I see your home, it is a reflection of details and your own beautiful journey. Your home is totally beautiful, but also extremely charming, welcoming, loved, cherished and refined.
I will back for more lovely visits!
Jemma
I'm so glad to have met you too, Jemma! Thank you so much for all the lovely compliments :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful home! My grandmother's home had a built-in corner shelf like you have, and I always thought it looked so special! This also reminds me it's time to display her china now. I love those arches too. Thanks for sharing your pretty things. :)
ReplyDeleteDee, I've always wanted corner cabinets like those and I was thrilled to see that this house still had them. They're something special, aren't they?
DeleteI hope you displayed your grandmother's china :)
Thank you!
I've never seen an archway like that. Your house has the prettiest architecture I believe I've ever seen. And your pretty antiques look so perfect!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I never have either, Brenda. I've never met anyone that has.
DeleteThank you :)
xo
Your dinig room is so pretty! I'm fascinated by the archway. I also have never seen one like it. Can't wait to see the living room.
ReplyDeleteSarah
Thank you, Sarah :)
DeleteLove all the deco elements! And your furniture fits perfectly~ you have such a knack at arranging things. How sweet that he had the clock fixed!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nikki :)
DeleteI was so surprised he did that!
xo
It's a beautiful room, and I like the art deco arch as well. I love the built-ins. The backs of your grandma's dining room chairs are amazing, including the carvings on the front.
ReplyDeleteOh... those aren't her chairs. Just the hutch is, but thank you, Su :)
DeleteLove the art deco archway. It's such a great feature to have in your beautiful house. -Kristi
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kristin :)
DeleteI've never seen an arch with that detail, like stair steps but there's probably a correct term for it. You are so fortunate to have found a house with so many original features full of character and quaintness. And that dining room chandelier, I would definitely keep it--and you mustn't replace your grandmother's chairs! I'm so glad you showed closeups of the built-in corner cupboards. All of the objects seem as if destined for this one particular house.
ReplyDeleteThe views from one room to another are so pretty!
I have no idea what that term would be, Dewena. I've never been one for technical terms and call most things... "thingy" ;)
DeleteHi Dewena :)
Those aren't my grandmother's chairs, just the hutch is. In fact, those chairs are only about 12 or 13 years old, but they fit into my style really well. The problem is, it's hard to squeeze by them in that room, but I'll probably keep them or give them to my daughter when she moves out.
After realizing that the chandelier was original, I'd never get rid of it ;)
It really does seem that I was meant to be the caretaker of this house. I love it so much.
xo
I have not seen an arch like that before! Usually they are curved and that's that. Amazing. It's a beautiful room with the built-ins and your gorgeous antique furniture and treasures.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful room, Rue. Your hutch is so pretty with all of lovely dishes displayed. Your house has so many wonderful details, I can see why you love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, JoAnne :)
DeleteIt is such a pretty room and all of your lovely things just add to it beautifully. All of the original architectural details really make it lovely too and add great interest! I can see why you chose this house! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amy :)
DeleteA very pretty dining room. I like that you have the original chandelier.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amy Jo
Thank you, Amy Jo :)
DeleteLovely Rue! You are so good at creating balance between larger ornate pieces and smaller pieces! What a harmonious enchanting room! Blessings, Genevieve
ReplyDeleteThank you, Genevieve! I just do what I like, so I'm glad it looks like I'm doing it the right way LOL
Deletexoxo
I just found your blog and had to leave a comment. I remember your goodbye post from your old blog and I'm so happy to see you back! Your home is so charming and I love what you've done in your vintage kitchen. I'm also envious of that wonderful painting over your hutch. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about that post, Vickie. I kinda hoped that no one would remember it. I was a little .... um.... angry at that point. Sorry about that.
DeleteI'm so glad you found me again though :)
xo
Your home is so warm and cozy and full of character. I love those chairs and wouldn't change them for something else. The window behind your sewing machine is pretty amazing too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine :)
DeleteHopefully I'll finish that room soon, but you know how these things go ;)
xo
Every single piece of furniture is your space is dreamy....keep the chairs!! Amazing!! That archway is fantastic too...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim!
DeleteI'm keeping the chairs for now ;)
I love everything. My favorite though is the silver tea, cream and sugar containers!!! Love those!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you, Pam! Those were a gift from a family friend about 20 years ago :)
DeleteI love everything about your home. :) The family spoon collection really caught my eye though. I have my great grandmother's spoon collection and have added to it. Some of thee spoons date back to the late 1800's and have her name or initials on them along with the date. They are so special to me.
ReplyDeleteWow! Love your grandfather clock! All your family heirloom furniture pieces are treasures--never give up those beautiful chairs!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pat and Debbie :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful visit. Love the chair seats for comfort and the design for beauty (dining room chairs). I did see the Silver Birch rectangular plate over the spoon holder display. It looks just right. You have such depth and texture in your home, a pleasure to visit.
ReplyDeleteJoy
