Saturday is the Fourth of July.
The day we celebrate our Independence.
Every year I watch the video below and it gives me chills.
It was written by John Mitchum in 1973 and narrated by John Wayne.
I really hope everyone knows who John Wayne is.
Please don't tell me you don't.
I couldn't bear it.
Seriously.
Anywho....
While looking for that video I found another one.
One that I think is still relevant today.
Or at least should be.
America isn't perfect, but I love her and I will be celebrating the independence of our beautiful country with pride.
That said...
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, but please listen to Andy and Opie and remember...
:)

A little choked up here Rue, watching your videos...and John Wayne huh? They just don' t make them like anymore. Pity.
ReplyDeleteI remember, I remember, Rue. Bittersweet, isn't it? Loved John Wayne!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteGreat links and advice, Rue. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteOh Rue, you are truly a breath of fresh air. Your posts on manners and being polite give me hope for the future. This post on patriotism is awesome. Have a wonderful Yankee Doodle Dandy 4th of July celebration.
ReplyDeleteYep, love it. I just read that about 3.6 million dollars (US) are spent each year on flags made in China. Is it just me or does that seem wrong? Also, love that your heading is Independence Day and not 4th of July - might be silly but it bugs me when folks just call it the 4th.
ReplyDelete(ps - do you like J Cash's Ragged Ol' Flag song too:?)
Happy Independence Day, Rue!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Rue! Have a fabulous 4th!
ReplyDeleteJohn and Andy = Americana. I love the song by Lee Greenwood, "God Bless The U.S.A." Have a fun filled Patriotic weekend Rue. Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteI love this! He did love this country, didn't he? No country is perfect but this is a wonderful country we live in.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a good 4th, Rue! Family and friends will be here with us. Some will go later downtown to watch Nashville's amazing fireworks display in person and to listen to the stars perform, but R.H. and I will watch it on t.v. and put our toes up.
Love to you in your beautiful neighborhood,
Dewena
No big plans here for us...we're just hanging at home, getting some projects done, but also finding some time to just relax. We're not going to see the fireworks - I don't like crowds - but perhaps we'll see them from our house. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHave a brilliant weekend ...
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Wishing you a Happy and Safe 4th of July,
ReplyDeleteTessa
Happy 4th back at ya!!!!! LOVE that vintage flag/4th poster!!! Yes, I know who John Wayne is. What would Mr. Wayne think of today's happenings???
ReplyDeleteOk, I have to admit, back in the day, I had a crush on Andy Taylor!!!! Thought he was the true spirit of what a man should be. Kind, understanding, fair and HANDSOME!!!! Of course he was too old for me but, I still enjoy watching reruns of those shows.
