Yes. Definitely. But I love Christmas and I have no willpower, so I would be the crazy out by pool reading that catalog cover to cover! ;-)

It wouldn't offend me to get that catalog since it's Christmas cards. I always think I'm going to work during the heat of the summer and get the cards done. Haven't done that yet but it's still a good idea. :)

I celebrate Christmas in July as well as December but in August I want to think of Autumn and Halloween and Thanksgiving coming up.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it matters when Christmas catalogs are mailed out. Some people really like to start planning their Holiday lights, trees and all that jazz way early. We don't do a lot of lighting for Christmas, and I can't remember the last time we put up a real tree... a big tree. Maybe 2003?? Each to their own. I do recall as a kid that we waited with baited breath for the Sears, Wards and JC Penny Christmas catalogs to arrive and I think I would still feel that way if they were still doing those catalogs. It was so much fun to look through them and dream about all those toys. xo
ReplyDeleteI do love the lead up to the big day, but I was in a card shop a couple of days ago and half of the shop was full of Christmas Cards! My mum has already got half way through her present buying (she always finishes by the end of August). I'll wait for Halloween to finish first! xx

ReplyDeleteI remember the days when Christmas decor did not go up until the day AFTER Thanksgiving. I truly miss it. Our Hobby Lobby and Michaels is already showcasing the decor. It's not a wonder people get fed up with it. :)

I see Halloween candy in the stores ( 2 weeks ago ) and some bloggers already doing their fall stuff.
ReplyDeleteI ignore!!!! Good grief this is the time of year when some of our garden flowers are just coming into bloom and later tomatoes and plants are not even ready yet!
I think it's early . . . but it seems the early bird gets the worm so Christmas is earlier and earlier -- I think Halloween stuff was out around the Fourth of July! EGAD! And I will admit that when it's hot and sticky, I don't want to look at fall stuff! I just want fall (cooler temperatures) -- not stuff!
ReplyDeleteI truly see both sides.... I hate to see people go into such debt when they wait until December to cram everything in at the last minute. If people would think a bit ahead, things like Christmas catalogs in August/September would serve a great purpose. Buy 3 or 4 gifts every month, get your cards purchased, start to plan and think about any decor you may want. It seems when people try to do it all in the 3 or 4 weeks following Thanksgiving is when the meltdowns and the maybe not so wise choices are made. If you seriously want to create some gifts or decorations, you can't wait until Dec. to start that process, either. I don't really think it is a bad idea to plan ahead, and to spread things out over 4 months or so ~~ and it seems people might have a bit less stress and be able to enjoy the days leading up to the beautiful Holiday if they did that. I remember my Mom and Grandmother starting their Christmas clubs in January every year to plan ahead...I think that has been lost a bit over the years.

then back up to high 90's tomorrow and all days afterward... but that's okay.

ReplyDeleteI like to get a jump on Christmas shopping and not wait to the last minute. I've already purchased a few Christmas gifts....and Christmas is one of my most favorite times of year, so I'm good with seeing stuff all year long! :-)

I always go into Christmas mode very early. For me it's usually October but since we are now in September, I caught myself making plans for Christmas. So, why not in August? You will reach Christmas well prepared since you are beginning so early. Well done.
