First I want to say thank you...
Thank you so much to all of you that left comments on my last post. Whether you left one for the first time, or have once in awhile, or have every time... I so enjoyed reading each and every single one. And I'm still reading them as they come in and will be answering more of them as soon as I can :)
I normally don't answer ALL the comments on my blog, unless they're from readers that don't have one, but I thought that this time I would make the effort to do so, because I asked a favor of all of you and I wanted you to know that I care.
I care that you took the time to introduce yourselves and I loved hearing about your lives and/or why you visit me or even if you just said "Hello".
All of you warmed my heart.
So, thank you.
Sincerely.
Now, let's go back in time to 1938...
I have two songs this time and both were sung by Bob Hope and Shirley Ross.
First is "Thanks for the Memory".
Written by Ralph Rainger with lyrics by Leo Robin for the film "The Big Broadcast of 1938".
It eventually became Mr. Hope's signature song.
Do any of you remember the Bob Hope specials?
I used to love them :)
Next is "Two Sleepy People".
Written by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics written by Frank Loesser.
A lot of people have recorded this song, but to me this one is the sweetest.
Here they are singing it in the movie "Thanks for the Memory"
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
And thank you again :)

'Thanks for the Memory' dear Rue. My dear husband and I saw Bob Hope when he was part of a USO tour while we were in Spain when Mark was in the US Navy. The tour was not going to come to our base, but because of bad weather at another base, in Italy I think, they came to our base instead. It was GREAT! I think the year was 1971. Vita Blue, Gomer Pyle, just the ones off the top of my head. Gomer singing was amazing.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend dear Rue, making memories there in your lovely home ~ FlowerLady
I loved Bob Hope! I saw him once while he was making a movie. Exciting times for a young girl!
ReplyDeleteLove this song!! I used to watch the Bob Hope specials all the time. I had the opportunity to meet him in person once. He was the nicest, kindest person. He was playing golf in a Charlie Boswell Golf Tournament and I happened to be working that tournament. He and Mr. Boswell were friends. The interesting thing about Charlie Boswell...he was a blind golfer!
ReplyDeleteI remember Bob Hope singing that song...so many great memories come flooding back when I read your posts. They keep some of the long forgotten memories of time spent with my mom, watching and listening, bubbling at the top of my brain. I love that Rue, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching Bob Hope specials with my grandparents!
ReplyDeleteI remember the Bob Hope specials. I enjoy his movies as well as his radio shows. These old stars were talented, funny and most importantly, classy.
ReplyDeleteI grew up watching Bob Hope and Bing Crosby "Road" movies, tv specials, and his USO tours. Thanks For The Memory song is Bob Hope. Great music post Rue, Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteI watched all of those too, Kathleen. He was a special part of my childhood :)

Bob Hope used to do the USO specials and my dad took the family to one when I was a teenager.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember seeing Shirley Ross before or these two movies but she was so pretty--loved her dress in the second one with that pretty bolero of tucks. Bob was so young in them! What a nice man he seemed to be. It's nice that a few of your commenters actually had the chance to see him in person.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories, Rue!
Dewena
Ahhhhhh, yes. I remember him well. Such a talent, and a lovely person it seemed. Entertainers like that are few and far between.
ReplyDeleteI certainly do remember the Bob Hope Specials! I've got a song for you...Goodnight Sweetheart. I believe it was written in 1931. My mom used to sing it to me when I was little, and I sung it to my kids. Look it up...I think you'll enjoy it. Evidentially there are two songs with the same name...this one starts out...goodnight sweetheart, til we meet tomorrow! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love that song, Donnamae! Al Bowlly is one of my favorite singers of all time :)

I loved re-listening to these songs here. Those old black and white movies . . . sigh . . . they just don't make them like they used to. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post. Thank YOU for the memory of these beautiful songs.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Joyce!

Oh yes I remember the Bob Hope Specials ....my favorite all time variety show was the Carol Burnett show. But as a teenager I loved Peyton Place...ah such memories.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea on your last post! I used to watch the Bob Hope specials with my parents and grandmother - wow that seems like a long time ago!
ReplyDeleteThere is something so comforting about these musicals. The gentle melody in the background while they talk and then sing. Thank you for the memory. I love Bob Hope, and Shirley Ross was always a favorite of mine. Kathi
ReplyDeleteGood morning Rue! First of all, thank you for coming to visit my blog AND for leaving a comment. Comments are a very integral part of blogging for me, because it is a social space. ReplyDeleteWishing you an inspiring weekend. Write about whatever strikes your passion! Anita
Both songs took me back to visiting my grandma's house when I was a kid. Love them, good memories.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Rue! :)
Rue, I remember "Thanks for the Memory." What a great song. I really enjoy your music series posts because music has always lightened my heart. I haven't been commenting as much because when I come over here it has been freezing on me, but I have been seeing your very nice posts. I'll just have to wait it out. I wanted to tell you that my post today was the Rose poem that you shared awhile back, and wanted to thank you for sharing it. It is now one of my favorites. :~)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, Rue.

I remembered your love of old movies and such. In fact, I remember when I found my Bonanza records on DVD talking to you about that show. I still love the Cartwright men, lol! Love your new blog and what you're doing with it. I think about blogging again and may start up again but right now I'm busy with getting a new degree (my job was outsourced to India) and it's about to get really crazy this fall quarter. Keep posting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Memory ... a great favourite.
ReplyDeleteMusic is such an important part of our life and I am so pleased to be able to listen to a variety.
I do hope you had a lovely weekend Rue - the days pass so quickly at times.
All the best Jan
Hello and thanks for sharing. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteI'm jumping back, to your last post. You did so marvelously, getting readers to stop and say a word to you. !!!!!!!!! It's probably the lovely way, in which you asked... Whatever, you did wonderfully, to actually get them to comment. I applaud you. -clapping hands-
ReplyDeleteThen maybe, it was that you asked readers, to tell something about themselves! Perhaps that was the magic! I love to ask reader's opinions. Because I feel that there are too few places, where people feel free to actually say what they think, feel, etc. Without fear of not being P.C. Or of being attacked, for their views.
So maybe your winning way, was this... "Please tell me something about yourself!!!"
Now that you have done a tutorial on this, maybe I'll work on such a post myself!!! Shamelessly using what you "did right"... Of course. ;-))))))
Gentle Monday hugs,
Tessa
