Random cottage wildlife

A doe and her babies.

One of many Quail in my garden.

A Finch looking at himself in the glass table.

A dove taking a bath in a puddle, after it rained, and another bird waiting his turn.

A deer in my neighbor's yard, after he emptied her bird feeder.

Quite proud of himself ;)

And lastly, a chipmunk that posed for me this morning :)

What wildlife have you seen lately?

  3. Natures children greeting you! The doe and her fawns, how wonderful! Last weekend a raccoon came sauntering by with her juveniles in front of our door early morning. Kathleen in Az

    1. I haven't seen one raccoon here, isn't that odd? Although I have enough to deal with since a bobcat has been hanging out in our neighborhood. The dog cage (where the doggie door is) so they can go potty at night is closed every night now. Mini isn't happy about it.

  5. Oh wow! This is so awesome to see! We have nothing but squirrels here and a few raccoons and opossum that love our trash. The deer are so pretty but I hear they eat tulips and flowers! Love those huge ears! Such gentle creatures.

So sorry I've been absent. It's always something in my world. :)

  7. the deer are so pretty but I am glad that they are not raiding here...though we do have them occasionally. Here it's mostly birds, bunnies and squirrels.

The finch admiring itself in the reflection...that is such a cute capture! And the chipmunk certainly was posing; what a cutie.

  9. Great photos! Raccoons visit, I've seen a couple of garden snakes lately too, and there are loads of butterflies, and birds too.

  10. How sweet! I love seeing all of your deer. We have all kinds of critters here. :)

  11. I love quail! When I lived in Sierra Vista, AZ, there was a family that lived on the property. They were so adorable when they would all go exploring together; that straight line with mama in the lead and the little ones following. I always thought of the old cartoon where the quail are always blowing their top knot out of their eyes!
Hope you are having a good week.
    Hugs,

  16. Squirrels and chipmonks.... -grin-

I wouldn't like to see deer. They are part of the tick chain.

  17. Oh Rue, I see wildlife every day. Nature brings me so much peace. I really loved your pictures of wildlife, and what's so special about it was that you saw them all around your home. The deer are magical, and I think there is something very special about the deer. The chipmunk is cute. Don't see many chipmunks around here, but so many squirrels. And my favorite was the finch looking at himself in your glass table.

Wonderful pictures today, Rue. They made me smile. : )

  18. What wonderful photos of the wildlife in your corner, especially the doe and fawns. (Don't see them often out about here...only twice in the twenty years I have lived in this house.) Now the other critters...see them a lot!

  19. Great wildlife photos, Rue! We have chipmunks all over the place. Little buggers keep digging in my potted plants. I don't see any deer in my yard or my neighbor's yard. They all tend to stay in the State Park which is 1/2 mile down the road from my house. When we first lived here - 25 years ago - and it wasn't so built up with houses, I'd see deer around my yard then. We also have a LOT of squirrels, groundhogs, racoons, and possums.

  20. We have bunnies and all kinds of birds, chipmunks and occasionally a raccoon runs through the yard. Scary! Your wildlife is cuter!

  21. What great pictures, Rue! We've not seen much, yet. Mostly birds and the occasional lizard (thanks to the cat!). An occasional bunny. Squirrels. Pretty boring! Your wildlife is far more interesting!

  22. You managed to get some beautiful photos of some gorgeous and precious animals Rue. We have all of those and more, including bear, moose, fox, wildcats, snapping turtles and too many other creatures to remember...but I rarely have my camera at the right time :/.

  23. Hi Rue, well I haven't seen any beautiful wildlife like this. A few squirrels, lizards, birds and bunnies here.
Have a nice holiday weekend. Hugs, cm

  24. The doe and fawns are so sweet there, all in a row!

We haven't had quail in years but my husband saw 3 young red foxes recently. And besides the regular squirrels and chipmunks we have the sweetest flying squirrels. Sometimes they will take nuts from my husband's hands.

  26. Hi Rue - sorry I have also been kinda MIA with the wedding and all......deer.....loathesome beautiful garden-munching creatures. They are so brazen and bold here too - daylight, they come right up to the house sometimes. Not a fan. BUT they were here first, so we're all trying to get along, haha.

Hope you had a good time in your travels. Hugs.

  27. I love your wildlife photos Rue! The only wildlife I've seen lately are my two dogs (they get pretty wild sometimes). Your one photo of the bird looking at himself in the glass table reminded me that I used to have a bird that would perch on and hover over my driver's side mirror on my car, trying to see himself in the mirror. He haunted my car for months and made quite a mess all down my car door and front hood. I had to put an old towel over the mirror to try and discourage him, but he would twitch it off with his little bird claw feet.

  28. Love all of your sweet photos, especially of the deer. But I won't show them to the hubster....he likes to hunt and would imagine them in all sorts of recipes...LOL Hugs!!

  29. We have sooooo many deer in our area, but I still love seeing the fawn with their white spots when the does bring them into the open. Really miss seeing cute quail in our yard. They used to run across our back patio in Tempe... yes! Right in the heart of the metro area, They would have all their babies with them and so adorable! xo Thanks for sharing.

  30. Squirrels, which empty the bird feeders, and raccoons and skunks at night. Sometimes deer. Unusual in a sub, but we have wooded areas for shelter. Bats, too. :)
    Great pictures, Rue.

  31. How wonderful that you get so much wildlife and can take these beautiful photos!! I haven't seen much wildlife in our garden since the stand off between the neighbours cat and the squirrel! xx

  32. So lovely to see all these Rue.
Squirrels are quite a common sight, but at the moment we have some noisy magpies ... which I hope will depart soon, they do seem to visit from time to time !

    Have a lovely weekend

    All the best Jan

  33. How fun to have all that wildlife so close by! We have a lot of squirrels and a few chipmunks, but I think ours look a little different than yours. We have bats, but we don't see them often (thank goodness!) and a lot of birds. Deer don't usually make it all the way into our yard, though there are plenty in the area!

  34. Oh my gosh! I love all the pictures. Especially those baby deer. And that chipmunk! Wildlife makes me so happy. That quail brought back memories from my childhood in Oregon. There don't seem to be any quail in Kentucky, or at least I haven't seen any. Such pretty, elegant birds :)

  35. Rue,
I am catching up with your posts. This is so wonderful. Ahhhhh to look out and see these beautiful creatures especially the family of deer. Adorable.

  36. Yes, I have seen wildlife this week. Actually a lot of the same types you've seen. We have a quail family that visits regularly. Gosh, they're funny. And deer are eating my garden. Doves live in the neighbor's tree and a chipmunk was on my porch yesterday. :)

  37. I would love to have deer and fawns where I could get photos! You have such an array of visitors!

  38. I see you get as much wildlife in your backyard as we do! We have to take our bird feeders in this time of the year as the bears are searching for lots of food to fatten up for hibernation and bird feeders attract them.

  39. Wow, I certainly loved all the pictures of wildlife in your neighborhood... the deer are so cute, although the things they do sometimes aren't, lol! As for wildlife, well, we've got a lot of it here! Wild turkeys roost in our trees, and roam around our yard all day. They are so funny to watch, and right now they have babies. We also have lots of birds, a couple of huge blue jays and various other chickadees and small birds. We have chipmunks that tease our dogs relentlessly. We had a black bear yearling in our yard about a couple of weeks ago. Haven't seen it since, and hope if we do it is at a distance! We also have a moose who brings her calf here every winter, and an elk herd that roams our property. And my husband had a run in with a cougar as well. So... we've got lots of wildlife, and love it all!

Enjoyed your post, and hope they find the bobcat roaming your neighborhood! Was at the local sporting goods store recently and someone brought in a pet bobcat. It was wild acting in the store, and I couldn't believe they were allowed to bring it in, but apparently it was in foster care, as it had been abandoned. I wouldn't want to meet up with one in the woods though!

    Have a great hopefully Labor-less day :)

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
