The other day when I was cleaning the fireplace mantel, a chip of paint came off and it turns out it was originally painted a sage green like the color in my kitchen.
Right now it's white, but I've been wanting to paint the room a very light yellow (still not sure about that) and the green would go really well with it. Plus it would bring out the colors of the birds on what's left of the tiles (don't ask) and would subtly blend in with the kitchen, but in a mellow way.
Here's what it looks like:
From across the room:
Soooo.....
what do you think?
Green
or
leave it white?

You have a really neutral color pallet right now.... Green could really bring a pop of color.... I don't know.... tuff choice! :)
ReplyDelete~Liz
I didn't even realize how neutral that room was until you said it, Liz LOL
DeleteI'm a color girl, so even though I love the calm feeling it has in there, I've been wanting to do something else and still keep it pretty calm.
Thanks for putting your vote in :)
xo
I say go for the green, Rue. I think it would look really nice and help your fireplace to really stand out. It would also look nice with the tiles that I won't ask you about! : )
ReplyDeleteI think it would too, JoAnne :)
DeleteI'll get into those tiles another time. It's a sad story. At least in my eyes, but I'm weird lol
I may be alone here - but I'd keep it white and paint that awesome mirror sage green. : - )
ReplyDeleteHA! You know darn well it would kill me to paint that mirror! lol
DeleteLove the thought though ;)
Paint it sage green and see how you like it. You can always repaint it, if you're not pleased with the out come. You have beautiful architectural details in your home. Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good point, Kathleen!
DeleteThank you :)
HI Rue! Oh, I vote for green! I think it would make your little bird tiles really stand out more. This is so fun helping you decide what to do in your house! I just love it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, darling.
You're always a sweetie,
shelia ;)
Here's my vote...paint it green to highlight the tiles. Paint the wall behind it white, and the other walls in the room yellow. I can just see it now...:) Whatever you decide, it will be beautiful! I love your house...:)
ReplyDeleteHmm...that's a tough decision! Now I'm wondering how that entire fireplace wall would look in a sage green? Or a light yellow? (Instead of doing the entire living room.) The good thing about paint is that if you don't like how something turns out, you can just re-do it! That pink kitchen from the vintage shop that I posted about...no, not for sale. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI would say green. Green is so peaceful, calming.
ReplyDeleteI think it is beautiful now, but green would be beautiful as well. The Mexican tiles are handmade and hand-painted. It use to be that you could pick them up in second hand shops and southwest decor shops. I use to have a small collection of a smaller size, because I love the whimsical folk art.
ReplyDeleteWell I know your not asking which color, but I think a soft french blue would be beautiful with your tiles, drapes and floor..look at the blue book on your coffee table..look at the picture of the over all room and see how that blue just pops in it..just me thinking out loud again..What ever you do well be great Rue..we all know how you can make a house a home..Love you my dear young friend..hugs and smiles gloria
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm clucking like Chicken Little, so indecisive, and I'm only an onlooker. :-) I've studied the near and the far photos several times...I'm torn. I like the white (classic; works with all seasonal décor; allows the tile to be a focal point), and I like the green (continuity with kitchen; peppy; merges with the outdoors--but it could also shake things up, prompting fun trips for pillows or throws...or not. Hard call. But a fun one. I also agree with Gloria--when I look at the tiles, the main color is blue. But when it comes to tiles, blue feels classic and neutral. (What if you painted a poster board? Just to play and live with the two colors for a while?)
ReplyDeleteI'd try the green color and if you don't like it you can always go back to white, as it is only paint! A few other green accents in the room would tie it all in. Maybe some green pillows on the couch and another shade of green on a dish on the coffee table?
ReplyDeleteGreen is one of my favourite colours, so I am biased! Happy Easter! xx
ReplyDeleteI think it is pretty as is and I definitely think the color would be pretty. I love color so much I would probably at least try it.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amy Jo
I think a sage green would be beautiful and would really help the tiles stand out. Thanks for asking!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love color, believe it or not I'm going with white walls! Those tiles are gorgeous, and I think the sage green walls would take away from their beauty! You can still add pops of green with some pretty green spring pillows!
ReplyDeleteRue,Wishing you and your family a Blessed Easter weekend! xo Christine
Ohhhh, hard decision. And actually, I don't like to give my opinion on color questions, etc.
ReplyDeleteMy feeling is, that we know (inside of us, as it were) what choices will make us the happiest. And all we have to do, is listen to our inner voice (or gut instinct, as it is called). So I don't like to give my choice, and "muddy the waters"... I love to have each person, find their own happy choice. And I'm sure you will.
Have a lovely weekend,
Tessa
Hmmm, I think the green would add a pop of color, however, I think I would paint the walls first to see how the white will look with the new wall color.
ReplyDeleteObviously it's your choice, but yellow is the most difficult color for the eye to see (physically.) It is usually recommended for areas that are meant for short times like an entry way or bathroom. It is also very distracting for those who have a tendency toward ADHD. It is the color of cheer & my favorite color of roses:) Green is the color of life and is associated with nature and well-being. So all that being said, what feel are you going for? Don't know if that helps....
ReplyDeleteLove it white but think green would be a real pop of color and show it off even better! Do it!
ReplyDeleteLinda
I am voting green!!
ReplyDeleteGreen.
ReplyDeleteWell, as you've seen at my blog, I love color in my home, so I say go for the green!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Blessed Easter!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the white it is now is too bright. It looks brighter then the near by window sill. A soft sage green would be my vote.....over those choices.......BUT.......
I would probably strip it down to the natural wood...if that color didn't mesh...then I would add a stain to the natural wood and seal it. I think (just my opinion...NO expert) for the era of your home that would be nice. Who knows what kind of beautiful wood is hiding under there!!!! Remember too, if you don't like it, you could still always paint over it and the paint would go on sssoooo much easier and nicer.
Citristrip would be my product of choice SUPER simple and fast to do.....NO I do NOT work for them in any way...just love the stuff.
Staining over painting would give a certain elegance to the room....with this era and style of fireplace.

Thank you for your suggestion, Addie :)
DeleteAfter looking at the pictures over and over here, I think green would be very effective. And one of the commenters advising painting poster board colors and leaving them up for a few days might really give you a sense of whether to go with yellow walls or not. That is one lovely shaped room!
ReplyDeleteI say keep the white, and paint the mirror frame white, also. The white lets the blues in the tiles pop. You could introduce some blue into the room with pillows or nick nacks.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lois :)
DeleteI think green would look fantastic! I am curious as to the shade of green...a lighter blue green might pick up the color of the tiles better. If you don't like it...you can always change it back! ;)
ReplyDeleteVery true, Donnamae!
DeleteI'd base my decision on how the colors would look with those bird tiles.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Paint is such an easy thing to fix if you end up not liking it, especially for such a small area like the fireplace.
ReplyDeleteI read a previous comment about yellow being better for small areas, but in our previous home of 26 years, we had pale yellow in the bedroom and living room and never tired of it. As long as it's light, you should be fine.
Hi Rue,
ReplyDeleteI say, it's only paint. Try the green and see how you like it. If you don't, you can always change it back. You won't know it you don't try it. I think it will bring an anchor to the room to be green.
Have fun and Happy Easter!
Hugs, CM
Before I read any of the other comments my vote would be for the green. I think it would look great with your tiles. If you don't like it you could always change it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love sage green so go for it ! :)
ReplyDeleteI love sage green so go for it ! :)
ReplyDeleteI would paint the walls a pale yellow, add creamy colored curtains, and use the darker green to accent the fireplace. Then add yellow, cream and green accessories to tie it all together. Would be a nice bright inviting look I think. Will be interesting to see what you choose to do.
ReplyDeleteI love the neutral colour the room is now ...... although pale yellow and sage green do go nicely together.
ReplyDeleteThe choice is yours .........

I like the white! I think it looks nice against any color you decide to paint the walls.
ReplyDeleteNeither, I say pale yellow.
ReplyDeleteI thought about it, but I think I'd rather have the room yellow. Thank you though, Laura! :)
DeleteIt's such a pretty room! It's lovely the way it is but I do love sage green and yellow. I am a so fond of color...and it's only paint right?
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for your suggestions!
