This is a dish that my mom has made since the 1970s.
She has no idea where she got the recipe, but it's always been a favorite in our family.
Side note:
I use Immaculate Buttermilk Biscuits instead of Grands now, and I use Sweet Baby Ray's Original BBQ sauce.
I also shred my own cheese, because it melts better and I use organic, not Kraft.
First you place the biscuits around the pie plate...
and then squish them together to make a pie crust.
Cook the meat, add the sauce, stir, and put it in the pie crust.
Scatter the cheese on top....
and bake until the crust is brown and the cheese is melted.
Easy peasy.
Which is why I think my brother and I, as little kids, were served this a lot when she had company and they had "big people" food at her dinner parties ;)
In other news...
I thought it would be a great idea to paint the inside of my front door the same color as the fireplace.
It wasn't.
Now, I'm painting not only the door, but also the trim and everything else that was white a new white, because I don't know what the original white was called.
Good times.
Wish me luck ;)

That looks good! I love recipes that are easy and have good memories attached. Good luck with all the painting!
ReplyDeleteRue,
ReplyDeleteI am going to side with your mom here - this will make an easy weeknight supper for my family - thanks for sharing! That bowl with the cows on it is ADORABLE!
Lori
That is a great recipe! Fast and easy and kids (and adults) would love it! It's sounds perfect with your new painting project.
ReplyDeleteEasy dinner meals are crucial during the week and this looks tasty. Love Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. Throw some soft yellow paint on the living room walls while your at it;) Better yet, have a painting party! Sorry about the green on the door though, darn. Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteI'll get right on that yellow, Kathleen! LOL

I have a recipe that is almost the same thing. I make a dough out of Bisquick, then scramble the hamburger, drain it, add the bbq sauce, then I put sliced pickles on it and last the cheese. It is like a big hamburger! The girls always liked it, so it's in the recipe box.
ReplyDeleteI had wanted to brighten up the dining room, years ago, and thought that I would use yellow paint. Oh my, it was so blindingly bright you needed to wear your sunglasses inside!
Have a nice night!
Hugs,
Deb
That does look like something my Grandson would like to eat!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a neat use of biscuits to make a crust. Thank you for showing us and sharing the recipe.
ReplyDeleteHi Rue, I found you. This meat pie looks yummy tooo and your home is so darling and charming. hugs, Lisa at Concord Cottage
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious, Rue!!! Thanks a lot for sharing the recipe and for your lovely photos. :)
ReplyDeleteThe meat pie looks good - like something maybe she learned in a Home Ec class? Boo on the painting. I painted til I was sick of it - don't know if I can stand the smell anymore!
ReplyDeleteYummy! That sounds like wonderful comfort food!
ReplyDeleteYum!! Cheese, meat and bread...all my favorites!
ReplyDeleteOh yum, such a keeper of a recipe - there is nothing quite like a recipe from Mom!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday,
xo
Jemma
This looks like such a great, keeper old fashioned kind of recipe, it makes me remember childhood. I agree with Emma, there is nothing like a recipe from Mom!
ReplyDeleteKind of a Shepherd's Pie...
ReplyDeleteOh oh, one miss, with the painting. :-) But paint is paint, and "easy" to change. Hahhhh, "easy" I say!!!! Long as I'm not having to do it!!!!!
Tessa
This would be great for a busy day supper! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBless your heart on the painting! I know that is so frustrating. On the flip side, everything will look new! :-) Thanks for the new recipe. The hubby will love it! Have a great day! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteMom's or grandma's recipes are always a great comfort food. Good luck on the painting. I need to paint our front door this spring, too but I haven't decided on a color yet. Why didn't the green work out for you?
ReplyDeleteYum! That looks so good! I bet that would work with chicken, too.
ReplyDeleteBummer about the paint. I do that kind of thing all the time...make work for myself. Oye!
Oh Rue, this looks so easy and good. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Good luck on painting the door. Maybe you need a color to pop against the green in nature and not match it. Just a thought!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Now I'm hungry after seeing your pie!!
CM
Oh I just realized you were talking about the inside of the door and not the outside. Gee, it's been a long day and TGIF!!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's the inside not the outside. That would seem a good idea to me as well! But it wasn't? Ours is white as well -- to match the woodwork. It's a beautiful oak door but as far as I know the inside has always been painted as has our woodwork. Your pie looks wonderful! And a good dish for a family. I would assume you COULD make individual ones with one biscuit and some meat, sauce and cheese?
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to have family menu's ..... keep them in the family but share and pass on the great idea's.
ReplyDelete" Wish me luck" ..... I do.
Have a great weekend
All the best Jan

Just the kind of comfort food I love. If it's not raining tomorrow I'll be heading to the grocery for ingredients. Thanks, Rue.
ReplyDeleteYour mom's meat pie looks and sounds delicious! I am convinced that it is so scrumptious because of the sweet memories that accompany it, too!

I don't remember my Mom ever making this, but it does sound and look so good! Hubs loves comfort food and this would certainly fit the bill. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat pie looks so easy Rue, and I think you're probably right about why she made it so much ;). Too bad you weren't right about the door. Ugh! Like you have nothing better to do, right? Knowing me, I would have just painted it any old white and called it a day.
ReplyDeleteI so wished you could bake me one for tonight: it looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteThat looks pretty darn yummy. Mmmmm....
ReplyDeleteOh I know my family will love this! Thank you for sharing! Love you beautiful Rue!!!
ReplyDeleteLove you too, Kim!!
DeleteThanks everyone! It's such a simple thing to make, but we love it :)
ReplyDeletexo,
