operation cabinet organization

These two cabinets were a mess up until two days ago.

So bad that I didn't take a before picture.

Yeah, I know you all want before pictures, but there's only so much reality that I'm willing to share :p

Anyway, I had finally had enough, after looking for the right spice the other day, and after seeing all the pictures of organized cabinets on pinterest, I went on a Ball Jar buying spree at amazon.

I still have a few more jars coming (mostly for the other pantry), but here's what it looks like now....

Cabinet one:

You don't suppose that I have a spice issue, do you?

I have doubles of just about everything here in the downstairs pantry, if you can believe that.

Well, I guess that proves that I cook a lot ;)

Cabinet two :

In case you're wondering, the empty jars are for pasta that I normally have on hand, but I haven't gone to the store yet.

The labels and chalk pen came in a set from Amazon too.

And since you're probably nosey like I am, here's the jar-less bottom shelf:

I keep the cooking wine, balsamic, salt, pepper, and olive oil on the serving cart next to my stove, and the regular rice, sugar and flour in an open cupboard next to my sink.

To show you what I mean, here's two old pictures from my kitchen post....

Yikes! Not that my pictures are all that great now, but you can tell I wasn't used to taking blog pictures anymore when I started up again LOL

Anyway, I feel sooooo much better, and the best part is I can actually see everything :)

Now on to more organization!

PS

Thank you all for your lovely words of reassurance that you still like me and that you understand that I'm trying my darnedest to do the right thing :)

Y'all are the best!

  1. Lovely, Rue! Beauty in organization! I love those black labels with chalk writing on all that glass. Very pretty! I see nothing wrong with your pics. In fact, I appreciate that your pics aren't all "professional" because it feels more real. Thanks for sharing your results with us and letting us snoop in your kitchen cabinets! ;-)

  3. It looks great! I am planning to do the same thing in my pantry when we finish my kitchen remodel. I love clear jars. I'll have to look on Amazon for some of those large ball jars...love them! I keep Amazon in business. Don't know what I did before it came along! We'll have to call you the spice girl...lol! I don't use a lot of spices and seasonings...I need to branch out I guess!. I have my favorites and stick to them most of the time. Have a great week!

  4. That's too funny. When I saw your cupboard, I thought, "Wow, someone with as many spices as me:)" Don't you love canning jars? They are handy for so many things. They all look so pretty on your shelves.

  5. Oh how I love organizing! It really is calming for me to put everything in little jars with little labels. I've been debating about getting the chalkboard labels, but I think I'll do it. I like the way the look on your jars.
Hope you're having a good week.
    Hugs,
    Deb

  7. I'm impressed...super organized! All my pantry dry goods (pastas, grains, dried beans) are in glass jars, too but not all of them are Ball jars. I've just saved large glass jars over the years from things like pasta sauce, mayo, salsas, etc. Mine don't have pretty labels like yours though. ;-)

  8. I have those same labels, but I got mine from etsy. I have about as many spices as you Rue! I hate when a recipe calls for something and I don't have it because I'm in the sticks. ;).

  9. Oh, I love it! I am so not organized, but I really need to get my pantry in better shape, especially the spices. Yours looks great, and I love the pictures too! :)

  12. Hi Rue! Oh, I love what you've done. Your cabinets are so neat and orderly and you can see everything you have there. The jars are great too. Now looking at your cabinet top - I love your vintage toaster. It just suits your sweet little cottage and you! Have a great week.

  14. I am always so tempted to buy those jars and organize. They look great in your cabinets and I bet it makes it really easy to just grab them and go when cooking. Fabulous!

  15. Nice job. I wish I had the cabinet space so I could do something like this. That is some spice collection. You really must cook a lot. That's great and so much healthier.

  16. My husband would be very happy to see all the spices, the cook in the family. It's those random spices that you need in a recipe that you really don't use after that drives me nuts. I love your cake plate, my mom has a similar one, part of her wedding collection in the 50s. Have a nice day, Kathleen in Az

  18. You did great! Makes me want to go and rearrange my messy cabinets! But I just sat down after cleaning the house. One cannot do too much work in ONE day, right? Your home looks wonderful Rue!!!!

  19. That looks wonderful and I love the ball jars. I love getting cool ideas from other people! And there is a place for everything and everything in it's place! I thought I had done a pretty good job on my organizing until I saw this...back to the drawing board! :-)

Rue, I just love your home!

  26. The Ball jars are perfect for the cook--and they are perfectly beautiful. I'm making notes for the ranchburger's pantry.

  27. Looks lovely, Rue! I desperately need to reorganize my bathroom cabinets. They aren't used as much as the kitchen ones, but I'm sure there's stuff in there that hasn't been touched in years - time to toss!

  31. Ha ha ha I LOVE when people do stuff like this because then I can live vicariously through them and their cupboards and not have to do mine! :)

  36. I am such a peeping Tamara at heart, I think. I always love seeing other people homes - not because I'm nosey - at least I am pretty sure - but rather - I have been so curious about others (since I was a kid) and their lives behind their pretty closed doors. Love seeing your home and your jars are PERFECT! Love this - I love jars and they make such a difference, I think. And no plastic taste on the food either! You really have a lovely blog, Rue.
    Big hugs

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
