ay dios mio...

This morning I woke up looking forward to seeing what the response was from my post yesterday, because the comments thus far were positive and they seemed to "get it".

Little did I know that I had stirred a pot.

So it seems I have some splainin' to do...

First off, the post was meant in humor. Meaning that I wasn't angry or trying to be hurtful, but instead trying to educate through my 'special' way. Quite a few of you got it, but some really didn't.

For that I'm sorry.

Second, I realize for a lot of you, I'm "new" (even though I'm not) and you don't know me that well. So let me just say here and now that I'm what you would call a smartass. (my apologies for that word if it offends you, but it's the only one I know that sums it up)

Every. single. word. on this blog comes from my heart. What you see here is the real me, not a pretend person trying to be something I'm not. Obviously this can sometimes get me in trouble, like yesterday.

But, I'm not going to stop being me, because I don't know how to be anything else and so what you will always get is honesty. I realize that this is a concept that doesn't go over very well here in our "little" community called Blogland, but that's just how I am.

I'm not here to boost egos or lie about my life. I'm here, because I enjoy sharing with you part of my world and hearing about your world.

Will I share every little detail?

No.

I did that once and it didn't turn out well. People knew things about me that I realized later that I didn't want them to and by that time it was too late.

Back then, I was new. In fact, exceedingly so.

What I will share is my heart and humor.

Even if it doesn't go over very well ;)

Lastly...

See that sidebar?

All of you are on it.

(Unless you're commenting for the first time or you don't have a blog or I've somehow missed the chance to add you. Please let me know!)

Do you know why?

Because you took the time to leave a comment here and I like you. I want to know what's going on with your homes, life, family, joy, trials and tribulations.

Sometimes it takes me awhile to get there, but I always do :)

Guess what else?

I'm not mad at anyone for labeling their style.

If you want to tell people that you have (insert style here), great! I'm not sitting here laughing at my friends.

That would be YOU.

I'm usually just looking at all the prettiness I see.

Do I sometimes wonder why things are labeled the way they are?

Obviously yes ;)

So, I tried to educate you via my weird humor, because I'm passionate about vintage styles and because I think this whole labeling thing has gotten a tad out of hand.

It was my opinion.

Not a paid opinion.

Not a slam on anyone.

Just me being me.

The only person I know how to be.

  9. I got both posts in today's email...so at first I didn't know what you were talking about. I read them both...I guess I get you...I can be rather sarcastic myself. And sometimes my comments have been misinterpreted. I thought you gave an excellent explanation with pretty pictures no less..to make your point. Keep smiling...and keeping being true to yourself! ;)

  15. I read the other post and did not find it offensive at all. If someone doesn't like your style then they don't have to visit. You are authentic and I like that! Have a wonderful evening.

  16. You are real and that's what I like best about your "world" -- you love living in a vintage house and keeping it as vintage as you can. Love your style, love your home!

  19. Now there you go stirring up trouble (LOL)! No, seriously, Rue, I admire your stand and don't see anything "smartass" about your post...you spoke from the heart and that came thru your post. I have friend I've known for over 20 years and if you didn't know her she comes off as a "smartass" but you just have to know that's her personality and she doesn't mean to insult or hurt people's feelings....so don't apologize for telling it "like it is"!

....and I love your kitchen too!

  21. Keep true to you. At least you will know who gets you & who you are. Some bloggers can post mean-spirited things - that's not you! I think judging from the posts so far, we love ya out here:)

  22. I adore your 'style' of true writing. That is what we should be, not a made-for-blog-only person. If feel if I act differently on my blog, it would be like telling everyone a lie, and I have a huge problems with liars. So, I'm glad you are being you.

  23. Read your post! A girl after my own heart ! Be yourself! That being said! I think all these blogs that I read and look at are for fun and getting decor ideas and sharing! Don't be so serious about the authenticity of it all! Everyone has their own style and these girls are extremely talented! I enjoy getting ideas ! It's a lot of fun! Just go with the flow and blog your own way! In your venue!

  24. This was my first visit to your blog and i read yesterday's post first. I was amazed and interested in how much you know of this. I in contrast am very out of tune and out of date. I was not offended and I think these words have been over marketed along with some other's that have nothing to do with kitchens. As for blogs I like them when they come from the heart.

    -lots and lots of gigggggles-

  27. Love your sunny daffodils, they put a smile on my face this morning. It's just what I needed, to finish moving.
Rue, love love love you and your blog! One thing about blogging, I've learned too, since it's not face to face something gets lost in translation. I read a blog the other day, that I imagined she had good intentions for writing it. I don't know her, but since I was new to her blog, thought the post was hurtful instead of helpful. I thought your post was very hopeful...and it was quite funny, because I think it was my Mother in law we were talking about a retro kitchen in our old neighborhood that was bright yellow and green! My daughter and I watch Property brothers all the time, and I never knew what a NEW retro kitchen was, seemed almost contradictory! Keep on with your sassy self! *hugs* Christine

  30. The pot needs stirring occasionally!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hello Rue -
As Art and Sand wrote, the pot needs stirring sometimes! As far as farmhouse, etc., I think you hit it on the head. I grew up in a farmhouse (built in 1894) with the only updates being forced air heating, one bathroom (the only room with running water) and electricity for a stove and fridge. The only dishwasher in the house was me and my sisters. We all (5 girls plus Mom & Dad) shared that one bathroom, we had 2 wells for water, a real farmhouse sink with the drain built in). No outside faucets for watering gardens, everything carried from the wells. All drinking water into the house carried and then heated on a woodstove for baths and cleaning. The "style" was neat and tidy as the work on the farm took everyone's time. We loved growing up in the house, but it was hard sometimes. I prefer updates now for sure! I guess my style is now more cottage, with bits of vintage thrown in. I would LOVE to find a sink like we had, it was 4' across, you could bathe babies in it, was all your pots and pans at once. I love that you've been very specific in your home details, I think you've done a great job in "modernizing" and making it more liveable for today.

  32. I like what you have to say...some things need to be said. I like the way you say it and like that you back your statements up with facts - something very few people do these days! I don't find your posts offensive,off-putting, degrading to other bloggers or derogatory in any way. Facts are facts. Hugs!

  33. I'm chiming in late here, but since you were kind (or brave) enough to share your two cents, I thought I'd share mine. You are entirely entitled to your opinion and since this is your blog, you're even allowed to share it. Pet peeves are individualistic. We all have them and our blogs allow us to share them. Some folks agree, some don't. Personally, I enjoy reading things that make me go "huh, I may not agree, but boy do I enjoy the debate". I read to make me think, to consider different ideas and ways of doing things. And although this wasn't a world-changing topic, I love that you shared it.

  35. You know, I am kind of there with you on this one. I must not have a handle on this farmhouse label. I think many of the homes that are labeled farmhouse style are gorgeous, but I am not seeing what makes them farmhouse style. I often wonder if it is because they are located out in the country, but that wouldn't make the decor farmhouse. I guess it all relates to the reason I can't answer the question as to what is my decorating style. I know what I like, and I just mix together those things to suit me. I guess I just don't generally get labels. We don't have to be labeled, do we?

  36. yea! - well said.
    Again.

    Big hugs
    Elizabeth

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
