Let's go....

Thank you for sharing what you like to eat for breakfast and lunch. It actually gave me a few new ideas for when I get tired of my favorite this week ;)

Anyway....

Quite a few of you have asked about my neighborhood, so I thought I'd take you on one of our evening walks.

It's a bit cloudy and cool today, so be sure and bring a sweater ;)

Are you ready?

Okay, let's go!

The trees out front have finally filled in :)

The view to the right of my house...

This used to be part of my house's property, but the neighbor to the right of me bought it from the last owners of my house, to avoid someone building on it. More on that in a moment.

The neighbor that bought it....

We'll get a better look at her house next time.

It was built in the 1940s.

My house was the first one built on my street, so for just about 10 years there were no neighbors.

Down the street past her house...

We're going the other way this time though.

This is my neighbor to the left with the "rock garden", that I've mentioned before.

Their house sits on what used to be my house's property too, but the last owners (AKA "the brown paint people") sold it.

The neighbor that lives on my right didn't like that the owners on my left overbuilt the property, which is why she bought the land next to her.

Apparently, it was a big stink.

Anywho....

Heading down past them is this house...

It was built in the 1940s.

In the summer, the whole front is lined with roses and it's gorgeous.

I'll bring you back when they're in bloom :)

Another neighbor of mine...

Love that old blue truck.

They used to have a donkey and a bunch of chickens, but for whatever reason they don't anymore.

Watch your step up ahead. The city is repaving.

We're about to head onto one of my favorite streets that's full of old houses, so I'll just let you enjoy it for the most part :)

This is one of my very favorites...

The pups are getting tired and it's getting dark, so we'd best head back.

Sorry for the blurry photos, but they didn't want to pose for you this time ;)

Another new build...

And lastly the same view, next to my house, at twilight..

And home sweet home....

Pretty cute houses, huh?

There's a lot more to see, so if you want to, we'll go on a walk again soon :)

  3. So cute. At least the last new build tried to fit in, though the scale seems a little bigger. There is red brick house in there that looks like they admired your house when they built it years ago.

  9. Hi Rue, Love your beautiful neighborhood and all the homes are so charming. Each has it's own style which I love.

  10. We have problems where people will buy a home, demolish it, and build a huge two story home right in the middle of a neighborhood of small ranch houses. Some municipalities have started passing laws to avoid this, but you have to feel sorry for the people whose homes are now overshadowed by what they call McMansions.

Your neighborhood is very cute and I like the variety. What a nice place to take a walk.

  12. Thanks for the walk around your neighborhood...I love the variety and beauty of most of the houses around you. Sure wish my neighborhood was like that! We have some different houses, but there's a lot of run-down houses, too.

  13. -clapping hands- Delightful... Simply delightful...

What a glorious area you live in. With so many lovingly cared for older homes. -happy sigh-

Photo #14. Please, what is that, atop the chimney? Looks a bit like a statue of an owl. Or of a hawk. Or.... :-)))

And your area is certainly "in the hills"... How interestingly, the homes have been built.

Thank you! And oh yes, another tour would be wonderful.

    1. Rue, Do you live in Flagstaff (since you get snow and it's so green)? In CA where I live, we're in a drought and I'm missing the color green and flowers big time right now so I really enjoyed the tour of your hood!

  17. What a cool neighborhood! Our town is full of old homes with a lot of character as well. There was a lot of money along the river in the olden days and some of the neighborhoods have really been kept up well!

  20. No wonder you fell in love with the area, who wouldn't?! So many lovely features on these homes, it's hard to pick a favorite, although I'm partial to the one you like (yellow house) and the one with the red door just a couple houses from you. I'm wondering...are your neighbors friendly?

  25. Ru, thank you for taking me along on your walks. I love strolling down neighborhoods like this. It reminds me of my brother's area with all the brick houses. I think I like the brick ones the best, but the other one that is so charming is the "home sweet home."

Oh, by the way, I'd love you to see the surprise that Jess' boyfriend gave to her. I've always wanted one, and you can tell me what year you think it's from. I know how much you love vintage, so I think you'll really like it.

    Have a sweet day, Ru.

  31. Very cute house and I enjoyed the walk with you! I love it when a neighborhood houses are all different. You don't have to say I'm the ten house that all look the same on the block! So your neighbors on each side really got along, right?

  33. Your neighborhood is very pretty, Rue. It reminds me a little of Carmel by the Sea in CA. A few of the houses you showed were very similar to yours in style. Very charming. I'd love to see all those roses in bloom in front of your neighbors home!

  34. I want to live in your neighborhood, Rue! What a treat to be guided through it by you. Yes, please, more sometime.

Obviously the owners care about their houses and gardens. Isn't that nice, when so many older neighborhoods go downhill. Did this area ever go through that and then come back? So many older neighborhoods in Nashville have done just that and thank goodness for all the young people doing just that.

Of course the mountains do make a perfect backdrop for it.

Thanks so much for the tour!

  35. I love your neighborhood...I love it when all the houses are different...before builders decided it was cheaper to make them all the same. Neighborhoods like yours are so full of personality and charm....just beautiful

  36. I just LOVE house tours! One of my most favorite past times is to have my husband drive me through neighborhoods. Just love. You have the BEST kind of neighborhood - no cookie cutter homes! What a nice place to take a walk and lucky you to have a vacant lot next to you. Lots of privacy. Thanks again - so enjoyed it. Going back to have a second looksy now.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
