Catch up

Since my computer went down right before the holidays, I though I'd catch you up on the goings on here.

Christmas was lovely.

But it was Annie's last Christmas living at home, so it was also bittersweet.

I acquired a vintage roaster from the 50s, just in time to make a beautiful turkey for Christmas dinner.

It worked!

Browned that puppy right up and happened to be the best turkey I've ever made :)

Who gets excited about a roaster?

This girl!

We went on a couple of ghost town trips (which I'll post about later).

And there's been a few projects around here, like putting the kitchen door back where it belongs...

and a few other things ;)

All of which i'll get into detail about later.

I'd get into it now but, you'd be here awhile, so you have to wait ;)

Be back soon!

  1. Love your "new" roaster--they don't make them like that anymore. Are you and I the only ones who like the kitchen as its own room with a door? All this Open Concept--who wants to smell last night's dinner all the next day. Looking forward to seeing what you're doing to the house.

  2. Thx for sharing...and what a great find! It's funny, but I just so happened to purchase a new rice steamer this morning. Hehehe. It works fine and does the job but I like yours so much better!

  6. I'd be darned excited about that roaster, too. I've always wanted one. Yours looks like it is in beautiful condition. In the northwoods of Wisconsin, in my younger days, all the Wisconsin taverns had those and still used them.
Your house reminds me of mine, Rue. We are kindred spirits.

  8. I got my Hamilton Beech roaster a dozen or so years ago (new), and it's well built and works great, but I love the styling of yours. It suits your home (and you!) so well. I'm excited to see your projects and the ghost town stories.

  13. I just came across your blog....you are a lovely story teller. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
In my move to eastern Washington I downsized and gave my roaster away...it had the original stand that came with it. Can you tell I still miss it?

  14. Hi Rue! Nice to see you again!

That roaster is neat. Glad it worked out so well - kinda nice not heating up the entire kitchen making the bird. I see those now and then - kinda fun to know it worked out so well for you.

Can't wait to see what's in store over there in your sweet vintage world. Hugs.

  26. Hi girl! I'm glad things are going well. I know about those bittersweet holidays as our kids grow up. It's kinda hard.

Looks like you are super busy at your cottage. Can't wait to see exactly what you are up to.

  27. Nice to see a new post from you :)

I know that it is hard when the kids move out but take it from me... lol . ENJOY IT. It is just a very small space in time for you. Before you can acclimate / blink an eye..there will be a new family and grandkids and whatever you did to make your place nice or what-have-you will now undergo the same thing that you went through when your kids were little :) In other words, it will all get ruined again ha ha ! :)

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
