Have you seen the movie French Kiss?
Ever since I saw it years ago, I say Fraunch instead of French. As in, "It's so very Fraunch."
I'm obnoxious odd in the fact that I pick up weird things from movies and use them all the time.
Anyone else do this?
Half the time, no one knows what the heck I'm talking about.
Oh well, it's just another one of my quirks ;)
By the way, can you tell I just figured out how to cross out words on here? :p
Anyway, after reading a lovely post by my friend, Michael (which for some unknown reason I suddenly can't find) about a blog called Christina's Cucina, I've been following it ever since, because she makes amazing food.
I've made a few things off of her site and everything has been delicious so far. So, the other day when I needed something comforting, I remembered that she posted a yummy looking potato dish.
It's a French (Fraunch) dish called Tartiflette.
Click on the name and it will take you to the recipe and MUCH better pictures.
It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Here's the assembled dish ready to go in the oven:
This time I had two observers, as it went in ;)
And here it is, all bubbly and wonderful, afterwards:
It looks like I was eating alone, but I just didn't care enough at that point to get both plates in the picture.
I was hungry!
Although I did manage to make sure the pups had their dog cookies, which you can see on the left ;)
It was incredible!
Tonight we had the leftovers with a salad.
Yes, I know caesar salad is Italian, but it sounded good.
By the way, did you know that homemade croutons are super easy to make and taste much much better than store bought?
It's true!
Just chop up some bread into one inch cubes (I prefer sourdough), mix it up with olive oil and spices (I use garlic powder, sea salt and pepper) and toast in the oven at 300 for 15 minutes.
Easy peasy and worth it :)
Let me know if you try the Tartiflette!

PS
I just finished answering all your comments on my last few posts. I apologize for it taking so long, but I haven't been up to my regular self lately.
I think I'm finally kicking this thing though, so YAY :)
I vaguely remember the movie. I don't remember the Fraunch part. I'll see if it's on Netflix. I've always loved Meg Ryan. I wish she was still around.
ReplyDeleteIt was when he looked at her on the plane and said "I don't like the way you say, "You're Fraunch aren't you?."
DeleteI wish she was still around too.
Mmmmmm..your tarteflette looks cheesy and good! I'm a foodie, Rue, and I love reading food blogs and pinning recipes. I don't prepare many French recipes so this one is new to me. Your "helper" looked to beat good supervising. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling much better soon.
I started watching this movie the other day on You-Tube, but didn't finish it. Wasn't in the mood at the time. I'll have to go back to finish it. :-)
Happy Spring ~ FlowerLady
It DOES look delicious. I went over to the link as well....yum! :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love this-the movie, your cooking, the recipe and your quirky ways:)
ReplyDeleteGet better super fast!
xoxo

I LOVE anything with Meg Ryan in it!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Rue, I am always behind the eight ball with my visits. Sigh. My cousin Bob arrived last Thursday and my time has not been my own. Running the roads, playing cards and visiting about all of our 'up North' family has kept me from my dear computer friends. He is staying in our cabin and sleeping late cause he is usually here by now. The cabin is just a few steps away. It is rainy, foggy, and warmer but not yet at full light. I am loving a few minutes to myself as Bill is already at the dentist. Nice...Smile.
ReplyDeleteYour...can't spell it, French dish looks absolutely delicious. YUM!!! I like to cook and bake but calories ruins the fun. My one French dish that I love to make is Coq au Vin. Julia Child's specialty recipe. My family love it.
Have a wonderful week.
Love, Jeanne
This sounds wonderful! I am off to visit the other blog...thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteHoly wonderfulness...I have to make this! Thanks for sharing. I love Michael's blog, too. Have you read her books?
ReplyDeleteShame on me, but I haven't. Bad, bad rue....
DeleteLooks scrumptious and I will check out her blog! Your salad looks great too!
ReplyDeleteRats! I think I lost my comment. Probably closed the window without thinking. Okay, will try to reconstruct.
ReplyDeleteI've not seen French Kiss, but I need to. I love Meg Ryan! Did you see Kate and Leopold? She and Hugh Jackman were great!
Thanks for directing us to that amazing food blog. Oh, my! Deep fried breaded artichoke hearts? And the dish you had looks unbelievably good. How can it not with all those ingredients? Must go look around some more.
We do the tv/movie quotes a lot in our house, too. Our 2 youngest girls are even more into it. Almost every comment that comes out of their mouths is either a quote from a movie or something Rhett and Link (a goofy pair of comedians) said or sang. Rhett and Link are their and our latest obsession!
Yep, I love Kate and Leopold!
DeleteI'll have to check out Rhett and Link :)
"French Kiss" may be my favorite film. ,-)))
ReplyDeletemy personal take from that film... when luke is trying to tell her the name of the "euro-trash guy" who stole her stuff... he says "Bubbbbbb"... and she doesn't understand. so he says "Bubbbbbbb, Bubbbbbbb Dillllllllonnnn"
forever since, I can not say Bob, with out saying "Bubbbbbbb, Bubbbbbbb Dillllllllonnnn". -giggles-
oh and I also loved the body language, when Kate is trying to get the snooty french concierge, to listen to her... "I just spent many hours in a plane..." (imitating plane) "which was flying over an 'oooocean'...." (imitating waves) -gigggles-
annnnd..... Kate having dinner with ex-fiance... he gets feeling ashamed... she says "Be ashamed... wallow in it till you get all "prunnnnnny", like when you are too long, in a tub.
lol!!!!! you got me going!!! that is my excuse, and I am sticking with it. :-)))))
Tessa
LOL LOVE it!
Deleteback down to earth!!!! ,-)
ReplyDeletethat (Fraunch) dish. that is brie on the top. I love my goat Brie! and so I recognized it, right away.
yummmmmmmmmm!!!!!!
Tessa
Oh that looks delicious!!!!! Of course anything with cheese is delicious!!! I love crossed out words and movie quotes too! xx
ReplyDeleteOk! I think I need some comforting! OMG! Does that look wonderful or what!? :) However, not for the LACK TOSE INTOLERANT....... (remember the train scene when she is eating cheese?)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes. I totally do this movie word thing. I try to keep it just between my daughter and I, as she is generally the only
person that knows what I'm saying. She's worse than me! :)
~Liz
Love that part too! LOL
DeleteI love Meg Ryan I love Potatoes and I love Fraunch and I love your little dawg LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, that looks yummy! I don't know if I am a good enough chef to pull that off...my cheese specialty is grilled, if you get my drift. I totally get your movie references, I do that all the time, but usually with old, old movies, the black and white variety. Very few people follow along and my kids just roll their eyes. Your Fraunch reminds me of an old John Cusack movie called Better Off Dead. His mother made a Fraunch dinner with Fraunch bread, Fraunch dressing and Fraunch fries. Classy.
ReplyDeleteI remember that movie! LOL
DeleteIve been a big Meg Ryan fan since she was " BETSY" on AS THE WORLD TURNS. JUST LOVED HER in that role.....then she went on to so many great movies!
ReplyDeleteThat looks delicious! Thank you for the link to her website.
ReplyDeleteOh that does look good...your pup seems to think so, too! Had to pin that recipe! Thanks for sharing her site...I got hungry just visiting lol. Hope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteYour sweet little dog just sits so quietly and patiently watching it cracks me up!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
YUM! Yes my entire family quotes movies ALL the time. (French Kiss is a particular favorite of mine, that I own and watch often. Even bought the soundtrack way back when it is sooo good.) Anytime we've had too much dairy you KNOW we yell out "DAIRY INTOLERANCE!!!!!" Heh heh.
ReplyDeleteYou have a cute pup- pretty intense looking to be sure. : - )
Another recipe to try out for the hubby! And yes, homemade croutons are so much better!! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I love brie and this looks amazingly delicious, almost down right sinful, with it's creamy bubbly goodness. Just oozing with flavor. Thanks for sharing Rue! I am definitely going to make this for the hubs and me, with all his favorites, potatoes and bacon! xo Christine
ReplyDeleteDelicious! I love Christina's recipes, too. I just saw on Bloglovin that she has a new recipe. Here's the link to her post about comments. http://christinascucina.com/2015/01/a-post-about-commenting-from-a-bloggers-perspective.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ChristinasCucina+%28Christina%27s+Cucina%29
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michael! :)
DeleteI would of been your third observers as you were making this! It looks so good, and love brie. But I don't think I could make this too often since it would like to stick to my hips...just saying. My hubs favorites food in the world is bacon and potatoes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link Rue. I pinned it, although I think I'll need to run a marathon to make up for the calories in this thing, (but totally worth it).
ReplyDeleteI saw that movie, but it's been so long I've forgotten most of it...but I pretty much love anything Meg Ryan is in.
You are too funny! Love your post!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy! :)
DeleteGlad you are feeling better. I still don't know how to mark through words and the movie line I use all the time is "you're (or we) are gonna need a bigger boat".
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Miss Rue.
Jaws! LOL
DeleteMy hubby and I...along with my adult sons all speak "movie-speak"....sometimes it's just appropriate! We are a family of diverse movie watchers...so it's only natural, but I've never seen French Kiss. I'll have to look for it. As far as that Fraunch dish is concerned...oooohhh! I'm off to check on the recipe. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope you checked out both the recipe and the movie, Donnamae :)
Deletexo
It looks incredibly yummy!
ReplyDeleteRue, this dish looks delicious, and the girls love all French food, as they visited France a few years ago. I've never seen the movie, will have to now. I noticed your chair, and I love furniture that has carving in the wood, it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend with your sweet doggies.
~Sheri
Potatoes, onions, bacon, Brie, whipping cream…..how could it not be good! Beautiful too, Rue. And so very Fraunch.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Rue! I'm so delighted to find that you made the Tartiflette (it looks wonderful), and thank you so much for your lovely comments! I really appreciate you sharing my blog very much!! :) Christina
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome, Christina!
DeleteThank you everyone! I hope you all tried it :)
