In that moment

Do you ever look around at your home and feel content?

In that moment,

you don't care that the pillows are messed up and blankets are askew...

that the mail hasn't been sorted...

that there's dogs toys and maybe a little dog hair scattered about...

or that there a bit of dust on the surfaces...

In that moment.....

you take a deep breath and notice that sun is setting and it's almost twilight.

The lamps and candlelight have a sweet glow from inside...

and you realize that no matter hard the road was to get there,

that this is where you belong,

that you are happy

and

that you are thankful.

I really truly am.

Thank God.

I wish all of that for all of you.

  2. That moment for me today was with both our kids and our son's fiancee visiting, spending the day on the beach and then staying for dinner. The moment around the table with the whole family was pretty special!

  3. I think twilight is the magical time for contentment. I had to laugh at the sign above the arch, though, and your view is just amazing! :)

  4. Your home is oh so lovely.

Yesterday I felt contentment as I stood hand watering, feeling the gentle breezes, knowing God loves me and is taking care of me.

  6. I love this! You know what? I've never noticed the roof on your house before - I love it and it make your home look like a fairy tale house! All the more to love home living in a dream! :) Love your snaps.

  7. Yes, I also have those moments. My daughter and I live in a small, but comfortable apartment. We are safe, with a roof over our heads and food in our stomachs, but most of all, we are not where we were 4 years ago. That is not to say we don't have struggles or I don't go to bed at night wondering how things are going to get better. I try to remember that we have improved our situation and most of all, we love each other. That's what matters, loving each other.
I think you are one lucky lady finding the house you did and where you did. The view from your house is one that I miss and wish I could get back there. I miss the desert. The evening sky especially.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
    Hugs....

  9. I love those moments and had one yesterday. I have a spare room that is a mess and while it's still a mess after yesterday it's less of a mess. I'm really feeling like I got something done. I do love my little home!

  10. -happy sigh- what a beautiful post... beautiful sentiment... beautiful photos to illustrate it... lovely....

and thank you so much, for the bitty tour of your home, inside and out... I love, love, love such a tour.

yes, I love sets! films are more interesting, to me, for the sets... more so than the plot. :-) and after all, our homes are our "sets"... our personal "sets" which we have been able to make warm, and comfortable and peaceful, just the way we want them.

    gentle hugs,
    Tessa

  11. Sometimes I get so caught up in trying to fit everything into a busy schedule that I forget to enjoy the simple moments like these. Your home is so cozy and looks lovely in the evening glow!

  12. Rue, thank you for this post. It makes me happy to know that you feel this way about your house, your rooms, your view. This is when your house is a success, when you've found sanctuary there. I'm sure everyone who visits there senses that because I feel it, through your pictures and your words.

This is what home should be.

  13. Magical, comforting, and extraordinarily beautiful. Once again, your house offers more "nesting boxes" and shows us another enchanting side of herself. No matter what's going on around me, I try to take a moment each day during the Blue Hour to just _be_. It's my favorite moment. Your photos are stunning!

  14. I needed to read this post today. I don't do this often enough. Since we are having yet another blizzard today, instead of feeling sorry for myself I will walk around our house and be thankful for all I have. Glad to hear that you are so happy.
    Thank you Rue

  15. You have a stunning home that exudes homeliness and comfort. Just enjoy! All too often the cleaning up and straightening soft furnishings can made us not enjoy our home comforts and we need to step back and be thankful for all we have. I feel this way when I have the house to myself (not often enough). Take care. Chel x

  17. Oh yes, Rue - I do. After an exhausting few days of having my son home from school, I am sitting on my cat hair covered couch while munching on chips and salsa in bowls balanced on top of a pile of magazines and newspapers. Hubby is on the other side of the food/reading pile, reading his book and munching on pumpkin seeds. My house is quiet and warm...all is well. xoxo

  18. Yes I do think those sweet thoughts at least once a day. :) Pure and simple gratitude and contentment.

I'm glad you are happy, Rue. You've been through a lot of changes and you must be where you should be!!

  19. Those are rare moments of true contentment, and I love it when I can enjoy them fully as you have here. So glad you're having one of those moments, Rue. May there be many more!

And how funny that that deer made your dogs go nuts! They do that to ours lately, too! Lucky for them we have a fence to keep the dogs from giving chase! I sometimes wonder if the deer would actually like that though!

  22. I very feel that way, and are the moments I feel often at the Charmer. It's calming here, safe here and comforting. It's my safe haven, and it doesn't need to be perfect...in fact I dont want it to be perfect. Perfections is very unsettling to me! As always you said it so well!

  24. Hello Rue, I am happy to meet you. My husband and I have been married for 38 years and last year we sold our home of 33 years (which we loved so much) and bought a smaller house in the country on a acre of land. It was a big step for us, because I am retired and he will be soon, but in the last year we have been fixing this little house up and it has become the home that we have always dreamed of owning. It's small, it's old (built in 1905) and it is not the prefect place for some, but we count our blessing daily . . . this is our home and we could not be more content. I've been working outside, now that Spring is showing her pretty face and the housework is on the back burner, but that's okay . . . it's the good life :)
I am your newest follower, I found you on Vicky Hunt's Favorite Blogs List. Please come visit and I would be delighted if you would choose to follow me back. I love making new blogging friends. 25. Yes, I feel that moment many times during the day. I especially get it early in the morning because for me, it's the sunrises that get to me, they are so beautiful here. And early in the morning when all is quiet, you look around the house and just sigh with gratitude. What a lovely post this is, Rue. I can tell how thankful you are for your home.

  26. Let me tell you about dog hair. I grew up with dogs, I've always had dog hair around. I could care less if it's in my house, my bed, on me, on the floor. The hubby's family massively protests dog hair however, they won't even let my dogs come in the house. Behavior I never encountered on the West Coast... Anyhoo- now if I know his family is coming over, I purposely don't vacuum the couch so there's dog hair. LOL. I know it's mean, but maybe someday I will help them realize there are more important things in life than having a house devoid of dog hair :)

  27. Yes, indeed. I love the feeling of the familiar. Home.

  28. Yes, I love the feeling! Especially when you look around your house, and it's not just walls, floors and ceilings, or the things in it, but everything, it's home!! Now about dog hair, that's another story. We have 3 Siberian huskies and it's spring time, they are shedding their winter coats all over! Ha....your sign above your entry way...priceless!

  29. Absolutely but I wasn't always good about it. I'm getting better and better all the time about just living in the moment. It's a beautiful thing!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
