Curious again

I'd like to revisit a post I wrote in August of 2015.

After all, it's been almost two years, sine I asked about all of you ;)

....

I've noticed that not everyone that reads my blog leaves a comment.

Which is completely fine.

I promise :)

But naturally, I wonder about my readers.

Wouldn't you?

So, if you've left a comment before or not, I'd love it if you would tell me who you are and where you're from.

Maybe a little about yourself too?

I promise, I won't bite ;)

If not, that's okay.

I understand.

It's just me being curious.

  1. Rue, I don't comment very often, but I do look forward to each and every one of your posts. I live in Oregon and I have three pugs and one Maxwell terrier. I also live with my adult son and my adult daughter and my two precious grandsons, ages 4 and 7. I love your pictures of your pets and your home and your seasons and flowers and vintage decor and your travels with your special man. I hope you never stop posting; even if it's just to say, "I'm still here". Sandra

  2. Hi Rue. I totally get your curiosity. I've thought about this a lot, too. I can only assume that some just don't feel they should leave a comment as they don't have their own blog and don't feel part of this 'world'. I've also started to look at my Stats (which I really don't understand). Seems there are a lot more people reading but not commenting. Perhaps just a quick read on a Monday morning?

I hope you get more ideas, I'd love to hear them.

  3. Good Morning Rue - you know for years I've read blogs and only posted every now and then, not really realizing that some of the blog creators may want to hear back. Others (not you) almost complain about having to keep up with comments, so I just got out of the habit for the most part. I've read your blog under another name and as I have posted, missed you so much while your life was changing. You write from your heart and everyday life and I like that. You show your sweet pups and kids. Seeing the pictures a few weeks ago of your son - he was so young in your old blog! So was Annie. Anyway, I will try to do a better job of commenting and will now tell you a little about myself. I live in the muggy Deep South, have 4 delicious grandchildren (1 grandson almost 15, twin grandsons that turned 14 five days ago in Venice and a beautiful granddaughter almost 9). In order to have the sweet, sweet grands I had 2 sons many years ago when I lived even further south in Florida. I was also married to a man in uniform (but his was a State Trooper uniform) for 20 years, then divorced and returned to the city of my birth. I do back to Florida as often as possible as I made so many dear friends there, but have to live close to my grands. I'll shut up now, but please keep opening the door to your world - we love hearing about the area, your imperfect life and world!

    1. Hi Mimi :)

I can't imagine not wanting comments. Isn't that what all this is about? Community and friendship? Well, it is for me anyway. I don't mind not hearing from my readers every time, but it's always nice to get a hello, if they have time :)

I can't believe how old Alex and Annie are myself! LOL!

I would want to be close to grandchildren too and it's nice that you're able to be. Funny, I never realized you were in Florida. I've never been there, but would love to some day :)

Thank you for your sweet words, my friend!

  4. Good morning! I only post every now and then. I have enjoyed your blog very much - we have 'similar' tastes, LOL. I also now live in the muggy south (SW Georgia),where I came to live for a position in a non-profit (which after 10 years went into a different direction, and then so did I). I was born in Ohio, moved to New Hampshire as a teen (my father worked in newspapers and transfered to Boston papers but we lived in NH), moved back to Ohio, lived in Hawaii 5 years, and then in Florida 12 years (where I married and divorced). And then ended up in SW Georgia! Through the non profit (that sheltered abused and neglected children) I became close to a young man, who was transitioning into the next step out of foster care through our program and have ended up being his 'unofficial' Mom. He has disabilities (severe diabetes, lost his leg lower leg in 2015, and his right big toe in January 2016 but has prosethis now on left). He lives in apt close to my work and I have cared and loved him like a son for 17 years now. I have been picking up vintage kitchen items for a few years now, basically reproducing the kitchens of my grandmothers and mother, with items of the 40s/50s/early 60s. And other vintage items for throughout my home. And I have truly enjoyed your blog!!

    1. oops - also love the kitchens of the 1930s! That is what my great-grandmother had - I still remember visiting her when I was 3 & 4 years old! She passed when I was around 10 and she spoke mostly Italian with a sprinkling of English & her kitchen was straight out of the 1930s.

That is quite a story and a very touching one. I'm so glad that young man has someone to care for him through all his ups and downs. You are truly an amazing woman.

I would have loved to see her kitchen. I think the kitchens of the 1930s are the very best of all the decades.

      Thank you!!

  5. Good morning dear Rue ~ FlowerLady here, a blogger since 2008. Married for 43 years, widowed for 4 1/2 years. I love to garden, cook, work with needles, hooks, threads, yarn, laces, beads, etc. Love to read, love music. Miss my hubby big time, but life goes on and the grief isn't as raw as in the beginning. Losing him is not something I will get over. Life is different, and I still feel his love. God has been my strength and sees me through each and every day.

I always enjoy your posts, seeing your dear home, your pets and reading about your life.

Have a great weekend ~ FlowerLady

  10. Good morning! I have commented before, but I'll tell you about myself. I live in a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota, but my neighborhood is very woodsy and country-like, and set along the Mississippi. We watch wildlife outside our window daily, and last year we even had a huge black bear wander through, just a few feet behind our back porch! I was raised to love vintage, by a vintage-loving mother. All my life I have loved anything "old-fashioned", so of course, subscribing to your blog was a no-brainer. I am a retired mechanical designer, but my true passions are gardening, interior design, reading a well-written novel, and spending time with my darling granddaughters. I am married and have two grown sons and a grown daughter. Glad I found your blog!

  16. Hi Rue,
I check your blog weekly while I have my morning coffee. They go well together.
I grew up in North Carolina with short stints in PA and VT. My Dad was a Marine. My parents came from Pittsburgh, so we always spent a lot of time there, and I lived there for several years after college. I lived very briefly in Brooklyn NY, and then a few years in Charlottesville, VA. Now I've been in West Hartford, CT for the past seven years. I love New England, although I hate being so far from family, and the four seasons and all the history. It's nice to be so close to big cities and the beautiful landscapes here. VT and Maine are heaven on earth! I love old things, gardening, baking and am addicted to ballroom dance -- foxtrot, rumba, cha cha, salsa, hustle etc. -- I love them all! I have a dog named Rosie. Scruffy, white terrier. She is my world.

I have very few commenters on my own blog, which is fine since I am basically journaling about my family and such and I know that can seem very boring...Hubby and I live in Austin, Texas, having raised four kids and been married coming up on 32 years. He's from Galveston, I'm from Lubbock, so Texas will be our forever home. We have our sights set on Burnet, Texas for the future as we have bought land there and want to build a home on it. Love your house, the pups, John and you because you are so "real"...I know that word is so overused but I can't think of a better description. It's so refreshing to see someone online that is not "putting on airs", as we used to say in the South when I was growing up back in the '50's.
Somehow I made it from Southwestern Virginia to beautiful Central Oregon (which is High Desert country) 11 years ago with a lot of stops and houses along the way leading up to my husband's retirement. We have a precious 2 year-old grandson (thanks to our beautiful daughter and her hubby) and we were adopted by a dear little poodle mix dog 4 years ago.

  30. Hi Rue, I'm Janina and from southwestern Ontario, Canada. I'm a single mother of three. My oldest, a daughter, is married and expecting their first child this summer, Yay! My oldest son is moving out to Alberta in a month and my youngest son still lives here with me. We have a cat, Granny, a Westie, Holly and a yellow lab, Ben. We share a similar affinity to years gone by. My mother once said, I had been born in the wrong era. DIY and living basic is my mantra. We live in the country on a small property with a garden and 10 chickens. My parents live with us in their own granny flat. My grandmother was my hero. She had her own toolbox and was a wonderful gardener. I've collected as many plants and even household items like hers as I can. Her home was always cozy. I 'helped' her every Saturday morning for years till I went and had a real job, and got paid $2. We both enjoyed it. Thanks for your frankness about whatever topic you write about. It is so refreshing and I always feel the same. So glad you have found a wonderful man to share your life with. Wishing you all the best. One of the reasons I seldom comment on a blog is because there is already so much chatter and fighting and snarking on social media. I enjoy quietly reading your posts. Thank you so much, Janina

  31. Hi Rue! I'm Trudy. This is my first time here, and I assure you not my last.
I read your post about the dollhouse before this one. My one Christmas wish was a dollhouse. Never had the wish come true. I am still looking and, know one day the wish will become reality.
I live in Northeast Minnesota. Halfwat between Minneapolis and Duluth. City born and raised I moved with my husband to the back of beyond in 1991. And while I miss the city I wouldn't trade my life i the woods.
I am 61 and like to crochet, am passionate about photography. My camera is always at my side. I read. My husbznd and I have 2 cats. We used to hav 27. Don't worry most of those were feral. We called them ours and they each had a name. We have a sign in the porch showing kitties and it says, "We collect strays."
I have one son who is 32 and lives in Minneapolis with his girlfriend and their 2 dogs.
I do have a blog but, am slow at getting back to it after a lengthy hiatus.
I will be sure to comment often on your posts if you answer a question for me. Where do you find vintage dresses?

    1. Hi Trudy!

I'm so glad you found me in my corner of Blogland :)

Every time I hear Duluth, I think of Sleepless in Seattle for some reason lol I can understand not wanting to trade life in the woods for the city. I feel that way myself :)

27?! Good Lord! I don't think I could remember that many names LOL! That's very sweet of you to take them in though.

I'll be sure to visit your blog, as soon as I get a chance. I'm a little behind lol

Oh and I find my vintage dresses on Ebay and Etsy :)

I really hope your dollhouse wish comes true and thank you!

  32. I am retired, single, and I have old cat and a dog (thats a twin to yours) I live in OK. I moved here from KS after purchasing my home. I would like to tell you how I got my dog. My friend would walk his dogs every morning down the road to the humane shelter. Behind the shelter there is a wooded area. He saw this little dog and started feeding it on his daily walks. He did this daily for 5 years. Last January we had a very cold week. When he went to feed the little dog he saw that the poor thing had icicles on his ears. He put him in his car, wrapped him in a blanket, and sat with him for about 30 minutes. When he got home, he called me and asked me to please take the little dog in until he could find a home for him. So I did. I call him Buddy. He is an older dog (probably about 9-10 yrs) Someone cared enough for him that they neutered him at some point. He has never had a accident in the house, gets along well with the cat, and never runs off when I let him outside by himself. It is now June and Buddy still lives with me, and probably always will.

I never comment on blogs and I read a lot of them, just love checking in. I don't have a blog so I guess I don't understand the importance of commenting.
I have been married for 45 years and we moved from MI to FL 3 years ago. My daughter and daughter in law moved from MI to CO last year and I just recently visited them. Such a beautiful area with the mountains and natural areas.

It is beautiful where your daughter and daughter-in-law live. I've never been to Florida, but I hear it's beautiful there too.

  34. Hi Rue. I work as an architect in Williamsburg, Virginia and live with my minister husband in a kinda old house in the middle of nowhere, Providence Forge. Isn't that a lovely name? A minister from pre-Revolutionary times named it. I came across your blog when I googled "I can't stand open floor plans" or something to that effect. In high school, I longed to live in the 1940s instead of the famously hideous 1970s, and watched most old movies from that era. Your house is so charming, and seeing places and little everyday events through your eyes always makes me smile or feel peaceful. I have two grown children, two grandchildren, a Russian son in law, two cats, and a hound dog. I garden passionately, but only flower gardens. Thank you for asking about us. What a nice thing to do. Please never stop blogging.

  44. Hi Rue, I found your blog through Cozy Little House about a year ago. I enjoy reading about how others live their lives, whether mundane or exciting through extensive travel. I enjoy your blog because I feel it is really real and not staged. I am 70 years old, live in So. Calif. and have been married 50 years. I have a boy and girl, and a fantastic grandson who is in college right now. Please keep writing your post as it is very enjoyable to read, plus I love your home, inside and out. P.S. the reason I don't comment on blogs is that where is always says Select Profile I don't know how to pick one. So for now, my name is Denise, but I am going to go under anonymous because I don't know what else to choose.

Then you stop blogging shortly after that and now your're back. I read what you wrote about your original blogging and loved your style. You are one of the "first" I enjoy your honesty and your posts. Love your vintage style dress house etc. don't change. I'm kinda sick of farmhouse style and the white. I sick of the commercials in their blogs. You see one blog you see them all. I don't get or like Facebook or read it. I do have a blog, gardenthymewithdiana.com and I really put alot of thought and effort into it and work hard on the pictures. I do Instagram as well but only follow who I like and get to know via their posts. I'm at dianarn2627. Don't have alot of followers or comments on my blog partly because I don't put it out there, don't know how. Please let me know what you think of it. I do it because it gives me pleasure. I live in Troy Ohio. Have 2 grown chidren. One is 41 daughter, she's married, and in an administrative position at a college. My son is 31 and a Police Officer. 1. Hi Diana :)

I'm glad you found me through my dear friend, Michael :)

Thank you for your compliments! I know what you mean about seeing one blog and seeing them all. If I don't see true personality coming from the person writing it, I don't stay long, if at all. I don't care if they love the opposite of me (minimal style, modern or what have you), but there's got to be something that draws you in. Of course, I enjoy blogs more like my style obviously, but you can tell when someone is doing their own thing or just copying everyone else. And of course I will go pay the visit back to your blog and let you know what I think! I already clicked on your name and enjoyed what I saw so far, especially your darling pug Sam, but I need to time to really go over it :)

I don't know why commenting is a problem for some, except a few readers told me they had to switch from firefox to something else or vise versa.

Anyway, thank you so much and I'm glad you were finally able to leave a comment!

  59. Hi Rue, thanks for your interest in your readers. I don't usually comment because frankly I'm not too tech-y & navigating the comment options seems challenging. So I'm not really 'anony-mous', just the option I can use to reply. The name I use online is "Heart" (or if I must) "Heart Portal" & that says a lot about me. All Heart. I live in the valley south of San Francisco. My family has been here 7 generations. We traveled up/down the west coast as a child & we often lived in older homes which my mom made cozy. Older homes seem Graceful to me, the architects thought about how people would 'live' in them. Charming, quaint, subtly distinctive. You get that. I have also noticed that architects scale furniture/houses in keeping. You get that too. I follow your Blog because of your Grace, Charm, Authenticity & Humility. Thank you for Blessing our lives Rue.

I think you did just fine leaving a comment and I really appreciate it. Truly.

I love San Francisco and used go there all the time when I lived in California. Seven generations?! And they say no one was born in California LOL! And yes, I completely agree with you about older homes. They have heart, like you do ;)

Thank you so much for your sweet words and Bless YOU.

  64. I love every single one of your posts, Rue - so glad I found you.
I moved from Long Island, where I had a home decor shop for several years, to upstate NY almost 5 years ago.
Life is slow and easy here and my joy is found in all the simple things - morning coffee outdoors in my tiny courtyard, visiting all the local farmer's markets, cooking with all fresh, local ingredients. My daughter and twin granddaughters moved up here about 3 years and live around the block. Everyday is a blessing. xo

  67. Hi Rue. I like to read your blog and I don't post. 47, living in Portland, Oregon. 3 kids, 3 dogs, 3 cats and one husband. I love vintage things. I love old homes. I run a nonprofit providing emergency services (clothes, food, personal care items and referrals) to anyone in need with out question. We have a 1930 cute (aka modest) english cottage and I love to dream about how I would decorate and what I would change if/when we have the funds to do so. I enjoy reading your blog. Gabrielle

    1. Hi Gabrielle :)

Good on you for providing emergency services to those that need it. It must be very rewarding.

I'm sure your home is adorable and I would love to see it. As far as decorating and dreaming... why wait? You can find a lot of what you want or need at flea markets and goodwill type stores. A fresh coat of paint can change your world ;) Have you read my friend, Kim's old blog, Daisy Cottage? She has a new blog, but the old one has lots of pictures of things she found in places like that on the cheap and painted or redid things she already owned. If you read my post "the letter" at the top of my blog, there's link in there. Even if you can't afford to do that all at once, you can buy a little at a time and you can always redo what you already have and at least love it for now. Even if you have an ugly couch you can just cover it with a pretty blanket or an ugly table can be covered with a vintage table cloth, until you find what you want. I don't know if you were looking for advice, but I just thought I'd help. I hope I did :)

      Thank you!

  69. Hi Rue, This is my very first comment ever to a blog. I am a 74 year old widow for 5 years. I live in Alberta, Canada, and have three grown sons but no grandchildren. However 2 cats keep me company. I was attracted to your blog some time ago because I love vintage and your home. What finally prodded me to comment was your dollhouse. I have been a miniature addict for 25 years and hope you post as you work on furnishing and decorating it. I do not have a blog since I just have not learned the necessary computer skills. Have fun with the dollhouse project. I will check in when I can.

I promise I will show progress on the blog of the dollhouse, but it's slow going right now, because John's sons are in town this summer. Hopefully we'll be able to work on it soon though in-between fun trips. I would love to see your miniatures. After 25 years, I'll bet it's amazing :)

Thank you again for being so kind! And... I'm so very sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have your sons and your cats to keep you company. Many (((hugs)))

  70. Hi Rue, I don't remember how I found your blog, I just remember that the first time I landed here I loved your adorable little cottage and the vintage things you've filled it with. I was also interested in a blog written by someone who lived in the southwest (there doesn't seem to be many bloggers who live in the southwest, or maybe I just haven't found them). I also really liked the genuineness of your writing. I think I mentioned it before, but I live in California and have a cabin in south-central Utah .

  73. I'm Michele in Houston. For some reason, despite getting older all the time (and what's up with that, anyway?) my life seems to get busier all the time, leading to less blogs read in general. 76. Hi Rue,
I missed this post while I was in TX visiting our grandchildren, but now I'm back home in Michigan. Reading your blog and seeing your home and photos remind me so much of "the good old days". Mr. Cottage and I will be married 49 years this August. I don't usually write about our kids, but all are married and Brian will be 45 in July, Nicole is 43 and Chris is 39. Brian lives in TX, Nicole lives about 25 minutes from us and Chris lives with his Australian wife and our youngest grandson in Grand Haven, MI which is 45 minutes from us. They live right by Lake Michigan. My parents lived in AZ for years after my father retired I hate to say this, gulp...gulp; but I'm going to be 70 this October. Yikes! Anyways, I always enjoy reading your blog!

  79. Hi. My husband and I, and our two cats, live in Frankfort KY. It is one of the top five smallest state capitals, with a population under 30,000. We are in horse farm country, and there is a barn on one of the farms that looks like a cousin to your home because of its tower. If you google for images of Normandy Farm, Fayette County KY, you can find the white barn with its central tower. Here is a link to an article that explains the interesting history of the barn: http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/kentuckys-normandy-farm-on-an-international-stage/. The next time you and your beau are wondering where to spend the afternoon, you should plan for a really long drive and head to Kentucky to see this barn. If you come on the first Saturday in May, you can take in the Derby and wear a pretty dress and a big hat!

  80. Hi there, I am commenting for the first time! I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your blog. I live in a too-fast-paced suburb of L.A. in California. Your blog is an oasis to me, I love it, and I love vintage everything: clothing, lifestyle, architecture, aesthetics, simpler times, etc... :)

Also, I commiserate regarding hot weather like you have in AZ. Drought ridden CA is similar, every summer we have days/weeks of over 100 degrees. I'm more of a Fall/Winter girl.

I'm so glad you're back blogging, thank you for sharing so much loveliness!

    D.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
