The first fire

It was cold, wet, and gloomy out yesterday.

That lamp reflection is a little spooky, isn't it?

Perfect for the weekend ;)

So, I decided to light my first fire of the season.

Now, it's officially Autumn here :)

By the way...

It may seem like it, but I'm seriously not trying to be a tease about the wall color, which obviously you get a look at here. It's just that I have a little tweaking to do yet, before I show you the two rooms, but it will be ready by next week.

Not painting, thank goodness!

Besides, it's not really THAT exciting. Nothing has changed aside from the color. I didn't remodel the room or buy new furniture.

Sorry to disappoint you, if that was what you were expecting, but most of you should know me better than that ;)

Oh and the last post...

tongue in cheek.

Most of you got the humor, but I could tell some didn't.

My apologies if you didn't.

Truly.

Oh and one more thing...

Happy Halloween!

Dining table vignette questions

So, I'm curious about something and I don't want to turn this into a witch hunt (no Halloween pun intended) where we tear anyone down, because, even though I don't decorate like that, I enjoy seeing my friend's vignettes just as much as the next blogger.

I mean who doesn't like looking at pretty?

(In other words, please be nice in your comments.)

But, I've just gotta ask...

When you put all that stuff on your table...

Where do you eat?

Do you take it off, right after you take a photograph?

Or do you take it off when you eat and then put it back on?

I can't imagine talking all of that stuff off every time I eat, but that's just me.

Or do you leave it on and eat around it?

Maybe you never sit at your dining room table, so it doesn't matter?

In the picture below, I can just see that pumpkin on the end going flying if someone sat there that used a lot of hand motion when they talked...

Not to mention the candle... yikes!

Also, when you put something really tall on a table, do you leave it on there?

Is it because you don't want to look at the people across from you?

If that's the case, I've been there, so I get it ;)

Anywho...

I was always taught that you should have an arrangement low enough and shallow enough for people to comfortably chat and also eat, like this...

or to have one tall enough that it was above eyesight, like this...

Has this gone out of fashion?

Or is this just for cuteness?

Fess up, kids :)

Now don't get me wrong!

All of these pictures are pretty and I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I'm seriously curious.

Of course, this is just how my mind works when I look at Pinterest.

Which is what I do when I'm tired of painting.

Which by the way, is finally done.

At least in those two rooms I was working on ;)

Pictures coming soon.

Anyway, vignettes on dining tables are the least of my questions about things I see on Pinterest, but let's stick with this for now.

Almost

I'm almost ready to come out of hiding :)

I'm sorry to have been gone so long, but as you can see, it's been a little busy around here.

Scary stuff, huh?

Anyway, once I started painting the living room, I realized that I needed to paint all of the trim as well.

Then I realized that I couldn't paint the living room and leave the dining room as it was, so...

That was painted as well.

After that I had to paint the trim and corner built-ins too.

I'm sure you all know how that goes ;)

But don't worry, after it rained for over a week, eventually I got outside and noticed the changing leaves falling....

and went to a pumpkin patch and brought some pumpkins home.

So, Autumn has finally arrived with cooler weather and I'm almost done painting the last of the trim.

And I look forward to relaxing very soon.

Well, as much as I ever relax ;)

Just a peek

I'm still busy painting, but mixed in with regular chores and life, this going to take awhile.

Here's a quick peek...

With so much on my plate, I realized that I need to take a bloggy break for awhile until it's finished.

Just letting you know ;)

Miss you all!

Music Break 8

It's been awhile since I did a music break, but since I'm so busy, I thought it was time for another one.

For those of you that are new to my blog, I was doing a weekly series on music artists from before 1965 and mostly focusing on the 20s, 30s and 40s.

I think from now on that I'll just keep it to once a month or when I'm too busy to do a regular post.

Anyway...

Martha Tilton.

Have you heard of her?

If you've listened to Benny Goodman, you've probably heard her voice, because she sang with the band from 1937 until the end of 1939.

She also played with a number of other bands and appeared in many films and radio programs.

You can read more about her life 'here'.

Her most famous song is "And the Angels Sing" from 1938 with the Benny Goodman Orchestra.

It was written by Johnny Mercer and Ziggy Elman.

And here she is singing "A Little Jive Is Good For You" with Ben Pollack and His Orchestra.

Written by Ralph Yaw and Mel Waters.

Now back to painting ;)
