It was cold, wet, and gloomy out yesterday.
That lamp reflection is a little spooky, isn't it?
Perfect for the weekend ;)
So, I decided to light my first fire of the season.
Now, it's officially Autumn here :)
By the way...
It may seem like it, but I'm seriously not trying to be a tease about the wall color, which obviously you get a look at here. It's just that I have a little tweaking to do yet, before I show you the two rooms, but it will be ready by next week.
Not painting, thank goodness!
Besides, it's not really THAT exciting. Nothing has changed aside from the color. I didn't remodel the room or buy new furniture.
Sorry to disappoint you, if that was what you were expecting, but most of you should know me better than that ;)
Oh and the last post...
tongue in cheek.
Most of you got the humor, but I could tell some didn't.
My apologies if you didn't.
Truly.
Oh and one more thing...
Happy Halloween!
xo
rue
Your view looks an awful lot like the view out my window. I don't have a fireplace, but made due with a pot of hot tea and a fuzzy sweatshirt. Refreshing what we have, the best way to redo a room!
ReplyDeleteCold nights coming your way Rue! Love the pictures, cozy fire with rainy weather. Honestly, sometimes paint can make a big difference, I could use a couple gallons here:) Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween to one and all!!!!
You're telling me! It's been in the 20s every night and it's supposed to be in the teens tonight. Brrrr..... But I love it ;)
DeleteI hope you had a great Halloween.
xo
Happy Halloween to you, too. Nothing like that first fire of the season, is there? My first one was about a week ago. Love it and look forward to it once Fall has really set in. Glad your painting is done (always a pain) and I hate the clean up worse than the painting itself. lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty view in that first picture. I am assuming that is out in front of your house...so lovely---xoDiana
I love this picture outside, Rue. I think cold and rainy days are my favorite. : ) Your fireplace looks so cozy and made me long for one. I moved into a new house, and still have to get one. : ( The yellow wall look nice. Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween.

Isn't the first fire just the coziest thing? I love it - I always have the fireplace all ready to go with a fire laid as the weather starts to cool...this way when the time is right I just have to light it up! I have had fires going for the last few weeks, off and on....I have a wood stove and keep it going for the most part all winter once the weather cools. At this time of year I light it for a few days when the weather is cool and when it warms up again. let it die, clean out the fire, and lay a new one for the next cold spell. Anyway, love your blog and your home - and your post yesterday was fantastic, kudos to you!!
ReplyDeleteYour mantel is styled so pretty! I don't have a fireplace. But I bought two small stoves last year, and I can't get either one to work. Thank goodness for central heat and air, because it's now cold and rainy here.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Our weather has been similar, rainy and cooler, and I'd love to have a fire! We don't have glass doors so we can't just leave the fire burning alone. Every year I say we'll get glass doors but with an arched door they can be very expensive. liked your last post and I hate anything on my counters or tables. Its just not comforting to me to have all that stuff, and besides the Charmer is smaller and it can look cluttered easily enough.
ReplyDeleteWe have a fireplace but rarely use it! Maybe I'll be more apt to do so once we get a mantle. Yep, right now it's pretty much just a black hole in the wall. Can't wait to see your newly-painted rooms!
ReplyDeleteHow nice, I just love the cozy feeling of a fire in the fireplace!
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous rainy day picture, I love how the lights bounce off the ground. As long as it's not windy or torrential, a rainy day isn't half bad And the first fire! Love it! I like them in the late afternoon...so cozy.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your newly painted rooms. I get very excited with every stage of trying something new, starting and ending with paint if that's what it is.
Happy Halloween, Rue!

Your room looks toasty warm, Rue, and a fire in your wood burning fireplace is the perfect way to warm up a rainy afternoon!
ReplyDeleteNothin' quite like the first fire - yes, ma'am, it is now official! : - )
ReplyDeleteNice fire, Rue, and I love how you've done your mantel. And that green was the right choice.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm curious about your previous post, which I think I missed.
Happy Halloween, Rue,
Dewena
If I could go back in time to when me and the hubby were building the house, I would include a fireplace. I do miss having a fireplace. Looks very cozy Rue! :) Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThe fire looks so cozy! Perfect weather for curling up with a good book. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI can almost feel the wonderfulness of that fire going. To sink down into something comfy before it, to stare into the flames, nice.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend dear Rue ~ FlowerLady
Happy Halloween! We have had a lot of rain lately too, but it's been warm here. I am ready for a cozy fire. maybe today!
ReplyDeleteThe first fire of the season is always special -- a red letter day!
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, the first fire! What a lovely time for it.
ReplyDeleteLike it or not, Old November is knocking on our door. So it's the perfect time for a fire in the fireplace. Over here, we have been enjoying one, nearly every evening.
We only can, in this in-between time. In real winter, when our furnace has to keep working, a fire just sucks furnace heat out of the house. -sigh-
Enjoy!

Your fireplace is so cozy and pretty! Enjoy the fire after all your painting efforts.
ReplyDeleteThe first fire definitely indicates Fall is here and time to get out the flannel Jammie's. Everything looks so cozy at your place...the living room especially, but even your yard with the rain coming down looks welcoming. I will admit. I love rainy days. Just not too many of them.
ReplyDeleteAs for some people not getting your last post, it must suck not having a sense of humor ;).
The rain and the fire blazing away soothes my soul . I love the rain , the smell of crackling fire , a fuzzy warm blanket and a REAL book I can hold in my hand's to read , purely content !!!! Calvin take me away !! Lol Beautiful fire and the vignettes on and around the mantel and fireplace. ( did you stage that for us ??? Lol , I'm bad, sorry) Happy Halloween hon , TT
ReplyDelete*Calgon take me away. I take it they don't make Calgon anymore. Shoutout for spellcheck , NOT !!
DeleteLOL I knew what you meant, Tammy :) Staging? Yes I did... NOT :p

Oh you just can't beat a lovely warming fire ...
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend and all good wishes for the month of November, it will be here so soon!

"the first fire"
ReplyDeletei love those words. don't they just immediately make a mind picture.
and then to see it later... how lovely. it's a cheery room. i can already tell!
and that first picture... and the little lamp reflected in the glass ... oh! i love it.
i was out most all day yesterday in our own rain. so badly needed.
you could just feel the ground and the trees saying a relieved ... AHHHHHH.
i have little beeswax tea lights sitting around the room.
pretend tiny fireplaces! happy sunday rue. XOXO♥
Nice ghostly lamp and I love seeing the cozy fire :)
ReplyDeleteLove the first fire Rue. So cozy and inviting. Looking forward to your room and the new paint color. I know it will be gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous window view and so cozy to curl up by the fire and look out. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Halloween.
xo
Your fireplace is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely...a roaring fire! It's cold and wet here too! Happy Halloween! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donnamae! I hope you had a great Halloween too :)

Love the fire! We are all set to light ours as well. We are one of the few houses in our area that still burns wood, many have converted to gas but for me it's just not the same!
ReplyDeleteIt's not the same to me either. My last house had already been converted to gas and I hated it. There's nothing like the smell of a real wood fire :)

Looks so cozy there! Love the scene outside the window. Love your fireplace.
ReplyDeleteA fire sounds nice. It's a little too muggy here but hey, I don't have a fire place so I'll go to that place in my mind where a fire in the fireplace always smells good and feels so cozy.
ReplyDeleteYour fireplace is magnificent!
ReplyDeleteAwwww fall is official in your house when you have the first fire in the fireplace. I hope my next home will have a fire place. Miss having one on the cold days. Have a great rest of the week end.
ReplyDeleteKris
It looks so cozy! Last night was the first night in months (and months) that the inside house temp dropped below 70 degrees to ...69! However, I don't think it has ever been cooler than 67 in this house. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteI am so envious of your fireplace! And your wall color looks exactly like the color of my walls in the living room. It has been there for 15 years and I still love it. It is a very soothing color to sit in.
ReplyDeleteA fireplace is the heart of a home and I miss mine terribly. Glad you have one for us to enjoy in photographs.
ReplyDeleteGinene
Love the fire! I'm so glad you're finished with your painting. I know that's a lot of work and I'm looking forward to seeing the reveal. The wall color will look so pretty with all of your wood. I missed your earlier post about the tablescapes and I just had to comment on it! I got such a kick out of the comments! :) Thanks for popping in to see me.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love fires and can't think of many things I love the smell of more than a wood fire making fires eye, nose and ear candy to me lol! I am shopping these days for an antique match holder for my antique McClary wood cook stove I have finally drug out of 20 yr storage to restore this winter. I like your match holder - can you get strike anywhere matches in that long size?
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to find strike anywhere matches... well, anywhere. I just cut out the strike part and tape it to the underside of the mantel. I bought the match holder on Etsy.
DeleteI hope you find one you like :)
xo
Wet and dreary here today - a fire for sure this evening! Glad your painting is finished. Such a big job.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good Halloween.
Jeannette
I hope you had a good Halloween too, Jeannette :)

That lamp image was a tad creepy!! We are having a weird November, well the whole Autumn has been odd. Indiana does not have 70 degree weather in November, at least not the last 17 years. I really am afraid we will wake up and not be able to see out the window from the snowfall! Hope you have a wonderful week :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard about the odd weather out there. I hope you're enjoying it :)

It was wet and dreary here in Montreal today, Rue! Perfect day to stay inside and do housework, get some rest and make a nice pot of homemade chicken soup! Or a roast. I am glad your painting is finished. The lamp image is a little creepy, but fun! :)

ReplyDeleteThe fire looks so dreamy and inviting! I think we're a ways away from a fire... or any heat in the house, but I am so ready! I had to go back and read your last post... I'm behind! :) The pictures (examples), you posted were very pretty. but with a family that still regularly eats at the kitchen table, all that stuff isn't very practical for us. We rarely eat at the dining room table... a pure waste of our space, everyone seems to crowd into the kitchen and around that table. I do decorate the DR table a little more elaborately. If nothing else, the photos you posted made for a picture perfect setting and great inspiration! :) ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteA roaring fire always does the heart good, and takes the chill off the house on a cold damp day too. Ours has been on a bit recently as well.
ReplyDeleteYay!! Love the first fire of the season. That's when we know that Fall and Winter are here :)
DeleteI 'lit' our first fire a few weeks ago... just clicked on the button **smile**.
Next up.. a fire in the wood burning stove in the family room :)
I sensed your humor in your last post :)
Have a great new week.
~K.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteOh, it look so cozy.
We are enjoying some beautiful days here in Wisconsin. We are to have 4 days in a row of 70 degrees in November!! WOW!
:-) Carla
I wish I could light a fire at my house like yours. Love your mirror!
ReplyDeleteRue,
ReplyDeleteYour outdoor space is gorgeous, all I have is a postage stamp size lawn. Love the warmth of the color, your mantel looks intriguing and a glowing fire - beautiful comforts of home.
xoxo,
Vera
