A little late...

for a Christmas tour in Blogland, but better late than never, right? ;)

Before we get started, you might want to grab something to drink... like some eggnog, hot chocolate, a cocktail, or maybe even some Wassail and perhaps a snack, because you're going to be here awhile, if you want to see this picture heavy post.

Just warning you ;)

So we're starting with the fireplace...

There's the needlepoint stockings.

My mom made all of them.

A little bit of greenery and some little Christmas figurines.

The tree and Santa are music boxes.

One of the side tables holds a sleigh riding couple and a few Christmas books...

Including a favorite from the 1800s.

My great grandfather's humidor holds Santa's cookie plate, his glass for milk, the box that holds paper for Christmas lists...

and a sweet little card given to me years ago from an old blogging friend named Cherry, that says "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas."

An angel from my uncle is across the way.

On the coffee table I have two of my favorite snow globes, one from Annie and one from my aunt, more Christmas books and some music boxes that look like match boxes that my mom gave me.

Also a silver reindeer pulling a sleigh, that my brother gave me.

On the hall tree to the left...

is where I stick Christmas cards (just a couple when I had taken the picture at the beginning of the month)

Santa's hat that's made of real velvet and fur, that a furrier gave me when I was about 16.

My mom bought my pink suede prom dress from him in the 1980s.

And no, you won't be seeing that awful picture ;)

But here's the hat...

And a paper angel, which was one of the first Christmas decorations I bought myself.

A wooden Santa stands guard by the front door.

Across the way, one of three nativity scenes sits on top of my antique library cabinet...

My mom bought it for me when I moved out and I still love it.

In the dining room I decorated great grandma's hutch...

I painted the bird houses years ago, when I was more of a crafty person.

It also holds the second nativity scene and some of my Santa collection.

Across from that sits a mischievous elf on my grandfather clock.

I hung some garland in the window of my office....

and put up a Charlie Brown Christmas tree with the Taco Bell Chihuahua dog, that Annie gave me last year, relaxing underneath.

Moving on from there...

I hung my Christmas aprons.

There's also a few decorations for the windowsill above the sink.

Little baby Jesu, (so called by an old blogging friend, that gave it to me years ago named Suzanne, that no longer blogs, ) rests in a teacup.

My sad little plastic lighted Christmas tree, that no one wanted, sits on the fridge, and a few decorations in the breakfast nook...

You'll notice that Bubba was very interested in the picture taking process during most pictures ;)

Oh! And my mom just bought me that red phone you see on the wall :)

My sweet salt and pepper shakers :)

In the den, I have the third nativity, that was Annie's as a little girl...

and a Santa picture that says ""He went straight to his work.", more Christmas books, and an angel.

And the other "tree" that's made of metal.

My aunt gave me that and the animal ornaments too.

So that's it for the tour.

Nothing exciting, since it's what I do every year in some way or another.

Once in awhile something else will be brought in, but it has to be really super special or a gift.

Anyway, my favorite time is nighttime, when the living room seems magical.

Or at least it does to me :)

Wherever you are, I hope you have magic this season too.

It's great to see this post..I just visited your last one so I actually feel somewhat on top of things! lol!

I love everything you've done, you have that personal touch I envy and your vintage and passed down decorations make everything so beautiful and original. And I love that we get to see more of your charming home! I especially love your mantel, the old Christmas books and the Santa from your uncle. Everything of course but these are my faves.

    Love to you,

  4. Your home looks warm and inviting and ready for Christmas cheer, Rue. I so love your living room with the big window and your wood burning fireplace! The little tree on top of your fridge is adorable, and I've got the same phone in black. You've got a high end Santa stopping at your house by the looks of the fancy hat!

Thank you for sharing your holiday home with us and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!

  8. Dearest Heather ~ It all looks so 'homey and wonderful'. I loved this glimpse into your lovely home at Christmas time. My little place is NOT photo worthy at the moment as there is STUFF everywhere where it shouldn't be. Today I'll be doing some Christmas baking.

Have a lovely Christmas dear heart ~ FlowerLady

Your family has given you some of the best gifts I can imagine, so special. Your mom's talent is amazing and I do covet the Christmas book(s). Thank you for sharing, I've been looking for more Christmas from you and Kim. You both have such beautiful homes, my style to a T.. I hope you and your family have the merriest of Christmases and peace and joy in the coming year.

  14. Rue, loved your Christmas home tour with all the treasured decorations from your past. Many of them have sentimental meaning to you, which is truly the best kind. You know, my favorite thing of all here was the snow outside your window. It's beautiful. :)

Wishing you the Merriest Christmas, Rue.

  15. Rue, first off, your home is very pretty and festive! Second, I almost squealed with delight when I saw your little tree music box! I have one just like it! I don't know where mine came from and I've never found any info on it but I love it and so does my granddaughter. Every year, when I carefully unpack the little tree, her and I sit for a long time and listen to it and watch the tiny train, inside, go round and round. I'm always a little sad to have to pack it back up at the end of Christmas but I'm so afraid it would get broken if I left it out all year. Do you know the history of these little music boxes and where would I find more?

Merry Christmas to you and your family and may God bless you, richly, into the new year.

    Grace & Peace

  16. Just beautiful and meaningful. When I decorate a tree I pause with each ornament and reflect on where or who it came from, sounds like you do too.

  21. Love how you have layered the things you love into your cozy space. Each piece has a history or story and that makes it so personal. I bet it is beautiful at night. Noticed the snow out the window-wish you could send a little of that our way. Merry Christmas!

  25. Magical is how I like to feel about Christmas...it was late in coming this year for me. Lovely home...warm and very welcoming. Those stockings are precious! Our tree is finally up, and suddenly everything feels magical. (I think it has to do with shutting the rest of the world out.). Hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well! ;)

  26. We have a Taco Bell Chihuahua too! Only ours has no eyes thanks to those real-life Chihuahuas, so I don't set it out for decor. Ha ha. I meant to do a decor tour this year for Christmas, and then never got around to it. Maybe next year. I love your holiday decor though, so homey! It reminds me of my parents house :-)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Rue!

  27. Always pretty! You make things warm and homey Rue. It is a great talent. I believe you could live in a tent and make it welcoming.
We had a yellow version of that phone in my mom's kitchen and I had a turquoise Princess phone(It's little, it's lovely, it lights!) in my bedroom. Would love to replace it one day..sigh.
Puppy in the kitchen melts my heart and I am coveting the Charlie Brown tree.
Merry Christmas to you and your whole family. Sending love and hugs.

  31. I love your nativity sets. I used to make needlepoint stockings, all the family have them (about 40) and also used to make and sell for $20-25 each. I design my own! You mom did a great job! Treasures!

  48. What a beautiful and cozy home you have! Such a wonderful reflection of you! I would much rather see a home that is a reflection of the person that lives there than one that looks staged, cookie-cutter like and cold without any indication of who lives there.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
