Autumn greetings

It's finally here!

I know some of us (cough, cough, Kim ,cough) aren't as excited about Autumn as others, but I for one am thrilled. It was a hot summer this year.... actually, who am I kidding? Every summer is hot to me and anything over 80 degrees makes me want to sit inside a refrigerator.

Anywho, on my last post I had a lot a requests for finished project pictures. I'm going to be honest here kids... None of them are finished lol

I have 400 things going on in my heads at once and sometimes in the middle of one project I'll jump to another and another and so on. It all gets done eventually, but in my time, not in normal people time.

That means the bathroom, the porch, the potting shed and the back yard are all still in limbo. So, by the way, is the dollhouse that some of you thought was a real home. Nope, just another 'smaller' home project ;)

Speaking of...

Here's the one we're currently working on...

Meet Julia.

She's named after Julia Child and she's a monitor top fridge.

She was brought home last week and we've been frantically fixing her up to go into the kitchen.

More about that later.

And by later, I mean soon, because this is one project we'll be working on until she's finished.

I want that baby in the house, yesterday! ;)

By the way, are you wondering why I'm showing these pictures of my living room?

Well, I'm finally getting around to showing you what it looks like now, a year after my mom gave me  some of her furniture after her move.

The lighting hasn't been the best with the rainstorms we've been having, but it was clean for company (i.e. no dog hair) and the curtains aren't drawn anymore to keep the dreaded summer heat out, so I grabbed my camera and.... snap, snap, snap ;)

I'll see what I can do about taking some better ones soon.

As it is, I have what seems like a billion pictures to go through, so I have been thinking about you. I've just been too busy to post them.

I also have about 6 months worth of stuff I've missed in your lives, so expect a visit from me on your blogs soon.

Hey, at least it's only been about 6 weeks since my last post ;)

Happy Autumn, my sweet friends!

  1. Hi Rue -

Such a welcoming living room (and as a dog keeper) I envy you the clear areas around all the furniture and the shiny floor and the wonderful places to sit and everything looks so inviting. The dogs I keep sleep in the entry ways to our living room and shed and chew their bones and leave them behind to be stepped on in the dark.

That fridge is amazing - looking forward to seeing its progress.

  2. I LOVE that refrigerator and cannot wait to see how Julia turns out! What a wonderful find and how awesome it is to actually be able to use it in your home. Speaking of your home, it is gorgeous, as always. We suffered with the heat here also and I will be so glad to see it leave. I will join you sitting in the refrigerator! :-) Love and hugs to you sweet friend!

  5. Wow! I love your furniture. You have such a spectacular style. How exciting to find that fridge. I have a Big Chill in pink. It looks retro, but on the inside it is a Whirlpool. Your cottage should be on a magazine cover. It is just beautiful.

  9. So good to see this post from you. Your home is always lovely looking to me. I look forward to seeing Julia all decked out in her new home. My dear husband and I always had lots of projects in mind and being worked on. He's been with Jesus for almost 6 years now and some of those projects are no longer in mind, and some are still in need of finishing up. I do not have his expertise, I was his helper. I've worked on some old & new projects and it feels good when I get them completed, instead of being a procrastinator. :-)

Enjoy each day and all of your projects. Have a great weekend ~ Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady

  10. Hiya! So, I adore Julia!! Can't wait to see her installed and loving her new home in your kitchen :)
Remember when we lived at the homestead, and my sweet husband bought and installed that old Wedgewood range for me?? How I loved that old range!!
Your living room looks so inviting, and the furniture is beautiful. Lucky you to have inherited some great pieces :)

Good luck on all your projects. An old house is never done, as I can attest to, but the labors of love are worth it.

    Smiles :)

  11. Ha! I know...not a big fan of fall, but trust me, now that I'm 50 it feels like the oven is on inside of me all the time. The tide may be turning in fall's favor! Always great to see you pop up in my feed. Your sweet pup caught my eye in your lovely first shot. Almost as cute as your new fridge. I can't wait to see that lady in working order! Enjoy the weekend my friend. Glad to hear that all is well!! xoxo

  13. "Normal people time," what's that? Rue, your living room is so lovely, like it's been handed down through decades by good stewards. It reminds me of rooms in my latest addiction, Midsomer Murders. While down with flu, 11th day now, I've done almost nothing but sit wrapped in blankets watching one beautiful old English village after another. Half the time I don't even take in the dialogue because I'm soaking in the gardens and exteriors and interiors of English houses.

I think I saw a fridge similar to yours in one. Happy Autumn to you, Rue,

  15. Autumnal Greetings to you!! I'm happy it's Fall, also. Your living room looks all cozy for the season. I remember a fridge like that when I was a child in the late 1930s --- we didn't have indoor plumbing, but Mother insisted on a refrigerator when I was born. Plus, I remember my potty chair sitting right next to the fridge; so I didn't need to go to the outhouse!!!! Thanks for sharing, and evoking my memories of childhood.

  16. Hi Rue, your situation sounds a lot like mine-too many projects demanding attention! It’s good to see a post from you again (and your pretty living room). I look forward to seeing Julia up and running in your kitchen.

  17. Rue!! It is so good to hear from you again. I think about you quite often and miss your blog. You and John sound like me and Brian with our projects. We take forever to get anything done. First thing I noticed about your living room was more furniture. What a lovely seating area! Hope you are doing well. xoxo

  18. Hello Rue! Love it when I see a new post from you! I'm waiting for Texas to get the memo that fall has arrived - it's still hot and humid here.
Julia is awesome - can't wait to see her all polished up and in your kitchen!
We have a problem with project follow-though around here too. We both have projects floating around in our heads but sometimes they aren't the same projects. I tend to lean towards the ones we can afford and get done in a couple of days while the hubby leans towards those that are beyond do-it-yourself and require saving up for so I have to push to get the smaller ones done. (he also tends to think football season trumps projects but this year I'm ready to get some of this stuff done!) I now have 4 paint samples on my bedroom wall. I do know what I'm going with and we will be painting next weekend! We may only get the ceiling done but there will be painting! Have a smaller project on tap for this weekend.

  19. I love Julia and what a wonderful find! I can't wait to see her in your kitchen.
I know exactly how it is with have so many things going on at once. It has always been that way with me. We have painting to be done, carpet to clean and yard to cut. So with all that, Steve decides to power wash the from steps, only because he purchased a new power washer.
    Oh well

I have definetly been know to stick my head in the icebox from time to time, ha ha LOL Hope you're having a real nice weekend!

  22. Rue, I'm with you on welcoming autumn. It's my favorite season! The heat hangs on, but not the horrid triple days that go on and on for like forever!!! I hear you about billions of photos. I want to hire someone to help me organize my photos, get them easy to access, and delete all the duplicates and those not even worthy of a second look. Love the new project. Will Miss Julia be a working fridge or used for storage? We had a vintage icebox for many years. It was the old oak model. I used it as a piece of furniture and stored glassware in it. One of my nieces now has it. Have fun with the projects. Remember it's the process that brings the joy! Happy Autumn!!!

    1. Miss Julia will be the main fridge in the kitchen, but I kept my old one so that I can use it for extra stuff during the holidays. It's in the garage right now, because it needs work.

  26. OH I LOVE Julia...love, love, love and can't wait to see it in the kitchen. I am so bad about starting things and not getting around to finishing them for sometime. I think I get bored then I move to something else. I started laying floor upstairs 1.5 yrs ago...just need to make the body decide that it is up to the challenge of getting more done. Good luck on your projects.

  27. The living room looks beautiful! I love the changes. It suits the home well! My family and my sister's went up north to see the snow on Columbus day weekend. Amazing! It feels like November here, and autumn arrived a month early. It's funny, when I returned in August, I thought it felt like September. For that I am grateful!!! Even though there were more warm days over 100, we had few over 110. Oddly now, nearly every summer temperature is labeled extreme with the new redundant system invented for saying it is hot. (Maybe it works for places that are not normally over 100. ) Personally, as a long time resident, who spent their youth here, it is never extreme unless it is over 113. And the people not from here still hike! Go figure. Best wishes with the fridge! There was a company in Tucson that put modern motors in them, but doing it yourself is the way to go when you can. xoxo Su

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
