It was supposed to be a little break…

and it turned out to be a whole lot longer.

There’s a lot to say and a lot that has happened, but the most important thing is that I am sorry for abandoning all of you and this little blog. I have a lot of excuses…

My computer basically bit the dust.
I couldn’t keep up with life and this blog world at the same time.
Things changed.
Life moved on.
Blah, blah, blah…
Oh and I sold the house and moved to a different city.

Yep, I did.
A year ago I decided to change my whole life and make things easier. I’m 52 now after all and I needed something smaller, easier to take care of and with a flatter piece of property. Besides, I had lived in and loved that house for 10 years, which is the longest I had lived anywhere in my life and about 2 years ago I started to feel suffocated, like the walls were closing in, so I put the house on the market after a year of thinking about it. It sold right away to a lady that loves it as much as I did, thank goodness!
It wasn’t an easy decision, but a necessary one for me.

I needed a fresh start and I got one.

Other things happened, but I won’t get into all of that, because I feel that moving is the main reason I didn’t come back for so long. I mean, what is this blog about other than the house and my life?

That’s the other issue.
I feel like I was sharing too much. It’s kind of a strange thing to share your life in a public forum when in reality, you’re a pretty private person. My own family doesn’t know as much about the thoughts in my head as much as all of you do lol I do miss writing though, so I need to figure out a way to do that without saying too much. Not easy apparently 😉

I also miss taking photos. I’ve never been very good at it, but it’s something I like to do. I even started posting on instagram a short time ago, but it’s kind of a strange place. The jury is still out on whether I like it or not. It’s much easier to post there. Two minutes instead of two hours to write a post definitely has its benefits!

So that’s about the gist of it.

I’m not sure what to do with this blog now, aside from just leaving it here as a testament of old house love. We’ll see…

I’m not even sure if anyone will read this, but I felt the need to write it.

Anyway, I do think about you often and I hope all of you are doing well.

Happy New Year!

Much love,
rue

  1. I read it! And with great joy! I do like your blog and now that you moved I can't wait for your posts about your new life, your new house. Don't let us wait long. Take the time you need but remember that there are people who really enjoy your posts.

  2. Hi Rue! I missed you! Sad you sold your lovely little house. It had the cutest nooks and crannies. We still live in the same crazy spot we landed in January of 1979. But I know different strokes for different folks - my parents liked to move frequently. We lived in 11 houses in 18 years before I got married. All in the same small town. They only rented once, when a house sold too quickly. I hope you are happy and healthy and enjoying making your new house your home. Hoping I can find you on instagram. Thanks for checking in with us!!!

  3. Happy to see this post. Lots of big changes for you - and for the rest of the world, too. Do what seems best for you, though sometimes that can be hard to figure out. I hope you feel you can share a few things but yes, it can be easy to overshare. You'll figure it out!

  5. Happy New Year! **I often thought about you and hope you were doing well.

So I'm happy you're back - but at your own pace and comfort. If you just took pictures and said a little - that's ok by me:) Meanwhile - just happy you checked in with us!

  6. Die hard fan here, so nice to see you! Everyone has to do what is good for them and without excuses. Just start fresh and begin here! So make it simple, make it how you want it, either way, I'll read it! Not many do blogs anymore and I miss them horribly. They're like reading a good magazine of choice!

  8. So nice to hear from you again!!! Little Mini? is as cute as ever. Sometimes in life you just have to move on and forward.
Change is good for the soul. Also remember, YOU are part of your last homes' history.....that will never change.

  9. I have definitely missed your blog and wondered if something had happened or if you were just done with blogging, which would have and have missed so much. I hope you decide to blog again. I look forward to reading it again. Ranee (MN)

  11. So great to hear from you again and know that COVID didn't take you! When the blogs I follow go silent for so long that is one of my thoughts. Will look forward to more from you, to see your new place, and to see photographs. I also share photographs, my life, my poetry and so much. It is a potpourri from me! My blog is safe and do not know why it keeps telling people it's not. Someone told me it is because it starts with http but I have no idea how to solve the problem! May need to contact an expert, like a young person! LOL! http://poetrose24.blogspot.com/

  20. So glad to see a post from you, Rue! I think of you so often and miss your blog. I understand completely every one of your reasons. Life gets ahead of us and it's tough to keep up. The privacy issue I get, too. I went through a divorce in spring 2020, just as the pandemic hit. Then pulled up stakes in Texas and moved to Colorado where my family lives. I struggled with sharing about all that on my blog. How much to say/not say. It's hard enough just starting over, let alone be concerned with what to "say". (sigh) Anyway, my friend, I'm so glad you're well, and I look forward to whatever you share with us. Hugs and more hugs. Nancy

  21. Hi Rue...
I just looked at your blog just the other day. It's so good to know that you're ok. I haven't been blogging either - at least not much. Life has it's way of changing and there's been alot of that for me too. Whatever you decide about blogging, is up to you. Take care!!

  22. I could not believe it when you popped into my reading list! I so miss your blog. The photos were lovely and I liked your blog style. I'm sure by things happening you mean some negative things, too - I get that. There's been a lot of that for me, too, and sometimes I struggle with what I want to tell. But at 61, I am keeping it real. Like, Real real. ha. I hope to see you on here again...

  23. So good to see a post from you! I've wondered about you and hoped you were happy and healthy. I'm sorry to hear you sold your cute little cottage but I understand the need for a flatter outdoor space! (I'm 59 and not getting any younger!) I hope you will share your new home - I've always loved your style. Here is hoping 2022 is a wonderful year for you!

    ReplyDelete
  24. And I have missed you! I have worried and wondered if you would be back. I am a tiny bit sorry you sold your sweet little cottage, but understand 'keeping it simple' as we get a bit older (and I am 64 now). So happy to hear from you again and hoping 2022 is a great year for us all.

  25. Good to see you, Rue! Happy New Year!🎉✨ You have been missed! I hope you share your new adventures with us. I'd love to hear what you're up to these days. I'm excited for your new life in a new place (and state). Hope you start blogging again. I've been a bit out of it lately, so haven't posted much myself. The world has been a bit much to deal with lately, hasn't it? Hope you are well. Take care!

  26. That's so crazy, Rue, I just posted for the first time in eons also - wow, you sold your beautiful house! Well, I completely understand, it doesn't get any easier taking care of a house and property as we get older. Hope you landed somewhere you love, and maybe you'll share it with us some day! Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  27. So good to hear from you Rue. I haven't blogged in quite some time because I no longer knew what I wanted to share and the world was getting crazy. Take your time, but thanks for letting us know you're ok.

  28. I'm still here!!--- and I've missed your blog--- I always enjoyed it so!! Looking forward to hearing all your adventures in your new city and your new home!! I did love your old house but I'm sure I'll love your new one too!-- all that matters is that YOU love it and you're happy

  29. Happy New Year Rue. I understand the desire for a smaller house at your age, as this mountain home is small, but sturdy. You will find it much easier to clean and take care of. I smiled when you mentioned that we know more about your thoughts than your family does, cause I feel the same way at times. We share and our blog friends share, so we get to know each other, don't we? Whatever you decide to do, I hope the new year brings you many good things, Rue.

  30. I am so glad you are back! I always loved the way you took pictures for your posts. I am on instagram, but I like blogging better. I have been hacked on there so I change my password every so often. I checked extra precautions for safety that I didn't have checked before, so far so good. Keep blogging for sure. I am ready to sell and wish my husband wanted to because flat piece of land would be so welcome for me. I see you say that you switched to chrome for blogger, I don't use chrome for mine yet, I did but didn't like it. Happy New Year to you, Betsy

  31. i Rue, so nice to hear from you, I have checked here from time to time to see if by chance I had missed a post!
This post is one I could have written as I have been missing from blogland, only occasionally posting, I could have used the same excuses except for the moving! I enjoy blogging so much more than all other social media, my plans are to get back to blogging on a regular schedule, I hope to see more, lots more posts, from you too!, you have always been such a great influence and inspiration to us all!
    Happy New Year.

  34. So glad to hear from you again! I fully get what you've said. I haven''t written a blog post in months. For me it's about needing to take a break (10 years of blogging) and unexpected health issues. I do hope you'll eventually take snippets of your new house to share with all your followers. Missed you!

  36. "Oh and I sold the house and moved to another city." Bombshell! But of course it sold right away, it wouldn't have surprised me if people fought over it. Rue I was thrilled when I saw you had posted again and that sweet face looking at us in the picture. Yes, pictures are the thing I most miss publishing when I frequently drop out of sight. They stack up in my files, often with a post written and printed out to go with them. I often consider Instagram too and my kids assure me that it is easy to do. I spend so much time every day following family and friends on it but can't quite get up my nerve to do it. Rue, we all do hope you'll give us glimpses of your new home, sharing anything you want to. Please!

even if it's longer than anticipated. congratulations
on selling your home then purchasing a new space just
right for this season in your life. life IS about
seasons, hm? bless you dearly... :)

  40. Rue, I originally found you through Brenda's blog, Cozy Little House. Everyone was talking about your sweet blog and the sweet person who wrote it. I loved it. I loved your house, your style, your pets and your ideas. I tried to blog once and got so much advice from family about what to share and not to share; I was confused. Then my son and I bought a manufactured home in a 55+ community and six months later he passed away. I haven't tried to blog since. I do hope you don't give it up, but I do understand the need to regroup and recoup. I pray blessings on you and wish you the very best. Sandra

  42. Well, I have missed reading your words and your wonderful photos and I stumbled on you again tonight through Pinterest and wondered how you are and here you are with a post! Welcome back and I do hope you find your niche in blogland. When someone leaves it is like waking up to find a good neighbor moved in the night! LOL Anyway, you have friends who care and enjoy what you share. I just want to know that you are happy and healthy and that would be good enough.

  45. Rue! I have wondered about you and it's so wonderful to hear from you! I quite blogging a while back but I missed it so I had to come back. My old blog in the mean time was all messed up so I started a new one. I know life is not always perfect, the way we want to show it on our blog. I am always on your side and I do wish you the best. I hope you're loving your new place and I would love to see you blog again. I just have always loved your style! Just know I love you and you're a special lady to me and you do what is best for you. Thank you for letting us know about you.

  47. Good for you for getting a fresh start! I seem to do similar things every five or six years. LOL. But, as I've gotten older...I've stopped moving. I hardly ever write on my blog anymore and it IS probably because it does take so long. Social media is much faster! Take care, Jill

  49. Thank you for this post Rue~ Sounds like you've had a lot of changes. It's nice from this side to know you are "okay" and busy living life. I totally hear you as to the privacy vs. publicity. I too have struggled with that.
Perhaps, if there is a token here or there you feel compelled to share you can do so. I've enjoyed your blog and projects. If you choose total privacy, many blessings to you. Goodbyes unfortunately seem to be part of the blogging world, though again good to know you are well.

  51. I check back every so often just to see if you are posting again. Apparently its been a while since I checked since its July and you posted in Jan. I hope that your life is more to your liking now and you are not feeling like things are closing in on you. I loved your blog. Loved reading about your cute house, seeing your adorable style clothes and I have missed that. I tried to break from blogging for a bit, I lasted a few days....lol....I found it actually helped me. Helped me to share about things, to see about what others are feeling...etc. Maybe you should start another blog about what you feel comfortable sharing in life. Leave this one up for the "little house" and just start a new one. I, unlike you are not a private person, I share, I am an open book. I like sharing my photos, I love to share my art, my crafting, and so on......you have been missed.

  56. Rue, I always seem to be late to the party and here I go again! I literally just found your blog for the first time about two weeks ago and was so enthralled with your cottage that I sent the link to my sister and friend, who loved it as much as I did. I have read everything from 2015 to this, your last post two years ago and all the comments. What a wonderful following you had! My favorite post was the one where you took the video of your kitchen with the radio playing. It evoked feelings of my favorite era,, the 30s and 40s. That was before my time but I love that you have/had kept that theme, that time period alive for others to enjoy.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
