Green

Yup, I chose green.

I read everyone's advice and comments (Thank you!!), then I slept on it and then ultimately decided that Margret's original choice was the best one.

The next day I bought Behr's Olivine, which is the darker cousin of the one I have in the kitchen, which is Behr's Sagey.

Here's the before:

And the after:

A few of you said to go blue, but I have a fear of blue in my home, since my parent's house was filled with it during the 1980s.

Remember that trend?

Instead the color I chose pulls out the green in the tiles.

Speaking of the tiles, I have two on my mantel that I found in the dirt, on the side yard, from when they put in the horrid brass screen.

It just breaks my heart that someone would do that.

I'd love to take the thing off, but I'm afraid of what's underneath.

Maybe one day I'll get brave enough.

We'll see.

While I was painting I noticed the slight curve along the side.

I love how art deco it is :)

A few of you said to paint the mirror instead, but I don't paint antiques, remember? ;)

It's really old too.

Some pictures of the whole room...

Now that the fireplace is green, I'm really leaning towards a warm, yet lightish yellow for the walls.

It would be a huge project though and since I have so many other things that need to get finished, I think I'll wait on it for awhile.

A lot of you wanted me to leave the mantel white, but it just didn't feel right to me and I know that colors aren't trendy right now, but...

A) I'm not trendy (obviously!)

B) I'm a color girl

and

C) I prefer cozy and warm.

Anyway, I want people to think of their grandma's house when they walk in and I want them to be comfortable enough to wrap a blanket around them or feel like they can put their feet up if they want to.

That's the kind of home I've always wanted and I think I've accomplished that feeling or I'm at least getting there ;)

Random pictures

Some random pictures from last week...

I love my Keds.

A sign we found while cleaning up the backyard.

The view from my kitchen, with my new birdbath.

Flowers and/or herbs will be planted around it soon.

My pretty pink tree.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

I just got back from spending time with family, so I'm happily exhausted.

Thank you for the Happy Easter wishes :)

PS
I made up my mind about the fireplace and I'll post about it soon ;)

Green or white?

The other day when I was cleaning the fireplace mantel, a chip of paint came off and it turns out it was originally painted a sage green like the color in my kitchen.

Right now it's white, but I've been wanting to paint the room a very light yellow (still not sure about that) and the green would go really well with it. Plus it would bring out the colors of the birds on what's left of the tiles (don't ask) and would subtly blend in with the kitchen, but in a mellow way.

Here's what it looks like:

From across the room:

Soooo.....

what do you think?

Green
or
leave it white?
