True to my heart

I realize that a lot of my sweet readers may not agree with my views on many things.

My old-fashioned ways.

My refusal to paint antiques or upgrade my interiors.

That I don't follow trends.

etc.

This is true in my everyday world and in Blogland.

That's perfectly fine!

Honestly :)

But I can promise you that what you see (or read) is true to my heart.

I bought this little 1930 cottage almost 5 years ago with the intention of making it exactly what it was meant to be.

A true vision of it's glory days.

And even more...

a respite from a world that has turned into something unrecognizable to me.

And it's become one.

A place that I can call my own.

Something that takes me back to a time that makes me happy.

Not just me, but my family, and even the furry loves of my life.

And I want you to know that, no matter the season...

And even if I go against the grain and keep to the era of my home...

And fight against the ways of the world we live in.

My door is always open to you...

Even if you disagree :)

I'll keep the light on.

And that goes for my non-blogging friends as well...

Chris K., Kathleen of AZ, Ms. G, Lottie, Cindy, Mgster, Donnamae, Laney, Tammy, Jeannette, and so many others that have written me, even if only one time,.

I do reply to your comments, even if it takes me a coon's age, but I realize that you don't always see them, so I wanted to include you too :)

Thank you everyone for being apart of my Old-Fashioned World and thank you for every sweet word you write.

You have no idea what it means to me.

xo,
rue

  3. I love your cottage! It's not my style, but isn't that what makes the world wonderful? Why do we all have to have the same taste? Your cottage is part of what makes you, YOU. I feel appreciative of all the differences in this world, how boring it would be if everything was the same. And I think your "different" view on things makes you authentic. Authenticity makes you vulnerable, which opens the door to people not agreeing with you and it can hurt when people lash out. However, I think that authenticity is beautiful, and I hope you do too. Don't let anyone bully you into changing :-)

Hope you are having a great week Rue!

  34. Just as I love walking or driving past houses at dusk, it is fun to be invited to peek into your windows with the lamps lit. I always think that is a magical time as people are arriving home, scurrying to finish dinner and dishes, and then the house and everyone in it finally settles with a "sigh".
I think the world is sadly unrecognizable, and many of the characters in it, as well. Or maybe sadly embarrassing is more appropriate for too many of those characters.
I love reading what you have done to stay true to the age of your home. We live in the little log home my in-laws built in 1938. We know the field from where the logs came, and the where the sand was dug to help form the foundation. It is a funny little house with so many roof lines (from add-ons over the years), but it is sturdy and happy! They sided it in the late 70's to try and make it more energy efficient, but we can still see the logs in the basement area. So different from the large and lovely homes our friends and relatives have.... but we laugh and remind ourselves that we have all the character along with a plethora of memories within these walls.
"To thine own self be true" are, indeed, beautiful words to embrace!! Great post!!!!!

    1. Also, I appreciate the fact that when you are describing your house you talk about the "rooms". That is one of the things that absolutely drives me crazy! People on HGTV and the blogs only describe them as "space". It's not a space, it's a room in a home that people will be living in! In that respect, I think that is how some of them justify redoing and redoing and redoing for the readership and not for the actual livability of their homes. Therefore, making them more impersonal "spaces" rather than rooms. That's just my rant.....

I believe there are some who long for the old-fashioned charm, but try to achieve it by painting everything white....sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I think your home looks very charming and inviting. I absolutely adore the built-in eating alcove and can picture having coffee and reading the newspaper there...it just looks like such a happy spot!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It means so much to me that you took the time and I read each and every one. If you don't have a blog, look for a response under your comment. I try to get to them within a few days :)

For some reason, the comment box doesn't always show up, so if you want to leave a comment, replying to someone else's comment seems to work. Also, I've had to switch from safari to chrome in order to comment on blogger, so that might be the issue. If not, you can always reach me via email, located on my side bar. Thank you!
